Clinical Pharmacist Specialist Surgery

This position supports the surgical service lines and perioperative areas across Corewell Health. Responsibilities include developing clinical guidelines and protocols, providing education to team members and learners, and delivering direct patient care. The role also includes staffing and leading the OR Pharmacy Satellite at Farmington Hills while fostering strong collaborative relationships with the broader surgical services team.

About Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital

Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital opened on Jan. 19, 1965 as a 200-bed facility known then as Botsford General Hospital. Today, it is a 305-bed teaching facility with Level II trauma status.

Responsibilities

• Lead and staff the Farmington Hills OR Satellite Pharmacy.
• Provide medication education and in-service training to surgery and anesthesia teams.
• Optimize Omnicell operations.
• Develop and implement drug shortage mitigation plans.
• Verify medication orders for surgical and endoscopy patients.
• Conduct medication and controlled substance audits.
• Monitor adherence to surgical prophylaxis guidelines with appropriate clinical interventions.
• Serve as the clinical pharmacy content expert for colorectal surgery and surgical medication management.
• Maintain active involvement in Surgical Site Infection Committees.
• Participate as a member of the Surgical Services P&T Subcommittee.
• Contribute to formulary management, medication optimization, and sustainability initiatives across surgical service lines.
• Provide leadership for all Pharmacy clinical activities within the assigned area.
• Promote team efforts with pharmacy and non-pharmacy personnel to manage and achieve departmental/corporate objectives.
• Support staff development to meet/exceed minimum competency standards and encourage professional growth.
• Demonstrate good judgment and decisiveness in daily activities.
• Maintain knowledge of current pharmaceutical practice and commitment to professional growth.
• Serve as a role model of clinical excellence to staff pharmacists.
• Support management by providing oversight, guidance, and support for all assigned areas.
• Participate in the planning, organization, implementation, and follow-up of new programs and activities.
• Promote safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication therapy.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or Pharm.D.
• Preferred: Residency training.
• 3 years of relevant experience; 3 years of experience as a clinical pharmacist or pharmacy residency/fellowship preferred.
• In absence of residency training, candidates with demonstrated superior knowledge (board certification, considerable practical clinical experience, etc.) in the area of focus may be considered.
• State of Michigan Clinical Pharmacist License (required within 90 days).
• State of Michigan Pharmacist Controlled Substance License (required within 90 days).

Schedule

• Full time, day shift.
• Weekly scheduled hours: 40.
• Hours of work: 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
• Days worked: Monday - Friday.
