Clinical Pharmacist - Inpatient

Position Summary

Boston Medical Center is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist to join their Operations team. This role involves being highly integrated at the front-line of medication production, verification, and distribution, with oversight of technician workflow in the central inpatient pharmacy and sterile compounding suites.

Essential Responsibilities / Duties

• Reviews and processes medication orders, evaluating for appropriateness and compliance with hospital and accreditation standards, and state/federal regulations
• Identifies medication related safety events, reports errors, and provides recommendations for process improvement
• Affords assistance to central pharmacy staff, technicians, and purchasing team with supply chain management, medication shortages, and safe distribution of medication to admitted patients
• Triage medication related concerns with decentralized clinical pharmacists to optimize patient care and minimize delays in medication delivery
• Oversees the production of sterile, non-sterile and hazardous compounding operations to ensure compliance with USP
• Receives and distributes controlled substances throughout the hospital
• Affords assistance to the leadership team with initiatives to improve workflow or on special projects as requested

Education

• Requires a Doctorate of Pharmacy or Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy with an advanced degree
• Preferred: PGY1 pharmacy residency or at least three years of equivalent work experience
• Board of Pharmacy Specialties certification is preferred

Experience

• Experience in direct supervision of technical support staff for clinical and/or service and operational programs is desirable
• Proficiency in standard computational office-suite applications, including word-processing and relational database manipulation is required
• Prior hospital pharmacy experience preferred but not required

Knowledge And Skills

• Comprehensive understanding of the procedures, systems, and equipment used by pharmacists and technicians in the pharmacy
• A high level of analytical ability, organizational and personal management skill and focus to ensure the concerted approach to operations
• Experience working with as well as revising and/or implementing information systems
• Excellent interpersonal and telephone communication skills
• Professional in conduct and demeanor
• Proficient with standard software used in healthcare office setting (i.e. MS Word, Excel, web browser, etc)
