About the role

The Informatics Pharmacy Specialist supports patient care by improving medication use through the use of IT, automation systems, and medication-use processes.

Responsibilities

  • Supports pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members with requests related to pharmacy system changes.
  • Manages automation and technology systems, including project management and training and education.
  • Maintains system reliability and compliance with regulatory requirements, collaborating with the Clinical Informatics Committee.
  • Collaborates with the Clinical Informatics team to manage medication safety configurations, optimize pharmacy applications, and ensure accurate medication workflows.
  • Manages updates related to medication builds, formulary adjustments, order set builds, medication billing, and other regulatory and clinical changes impacting patient care and safety.
  • Performs critical clinical duties, including managing medication safety configurations, supporting and optimizing pharmacy applications, and managing updates related to medication builds, formulary adjustments, order set builds, medication billing, and other regulatory and clinical changes.

Qualifications

  • Education: Entry-level pharmacy degree (e.g., B.Sc, Pharm.D) from an accredited college of pharmacy and successful completion of any of the following: a Pharmacy Informatics Certificate Course [required to be completed within 6 months of hire], an ASHP accredited PGY-1 or PGY-2 residency, or a Board of Pharmacy Specialty Certification in Pharmacy Informatics.
  • Experience: Preference given to candidates who have completed a pharmacy practice residency and 3 years or more in clinical pharmacy service.
  • Licenses/Certificates: Pharmacist licensure in Alabama or eligibility for licensure via examination or reciprocity.
