About the Role

This is a hybrid role supporting clinics in Sarasota, Bradenton, Englewood, North Port, Port Charlotte, and surrounding areas. The Clinical Oncology Pharmacist will serve as a member of the central services team, delivering best-in-class pharmaceutical support to clinical staff across the organization. The role ensures safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication therapy through therapeutic monitoring, protocol management, medication information, education, and performance improvement.

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Pharmacy Clinical Services, the Clinical Oncology Pharmacist collaborates with Hematology/Oncology physicians and nursing staff to provide quality patient care tailored to oncologic diagnoses, prescribed treatments, age groups, and other patient needs. Responsibilities include coordinating the drug therapy process for the Hematology/Oncology patient population, including drug selection (with genetic/biomarker testing), dosing, monitoring, outcomes management, and drug utilization review.

Responsibilities

• Clinical Oncology Pharmacy Support
  • Provide timely consultation services to physicians, nurses, pharmacy staff, and other members of the organization.
  • Deliver up-to-date drug information on new approved therapies in oncology and other biologic therapies.
  • Apply current pharmacological and biopharmaceutical principles for drug selection and use in clinical settings.
  • Provide senior clinical support and education to department members in alignment with operational projects.
• Pharmacoinformatics
  • Review drug utilization reports and corresponding data to identify areas for improvement in usage and health outcomes.
  • Develop action plans to address under/over-utilization based on approved indications, NCCN Guidelines, and formulary.
  • Create metrics using pharmacy, clinical, cost, and functional data to improve clinical outcomes, cost control, and system usage.
• Advancing Oncology Pharmacy Practice
  • Assess and implement changes to improve oncology patient care and advance the pharmacy profession.
  • Provide clinical leadership to the Pharmacy Operations team and applicable committees.
  • Participate in local, state, or national pharmacy organizations to implement improvement strategies.
• Quality Assurance
  • Assist in developing medication order sets to ensure safe, accurate ordering, administration, and use.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to implement continuous quality improvement strategies and mitigate drug errors.
• Project Management
  • Execute project activities according to established schedules, milestones, and budgets.
  • Develop and manage project documentation from planning through implementation.
  • Identify and communicate with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

• College degree in pharmacy required; PharmD preferred.
• Licensed pharmacist (required).
• Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP) preferred.
• Valid state Driver’s License for travel to satellite offices and offsite meetings.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a clinical pharmacist in a hospital, home health, community oncology, or infusion center (may be waived for candidates with a completed PGY-2 Oncology Residency program).
