Clinical Oncology Manager - Oncology
Position Summary
Provides Quality/No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by being a member of the Nursing Management Staff. Delegated authority and autonomy for assessing all planning and directing of functions including evaluating patient care in both the outpatient Oncology practices and the infusion centers.
Primary Accountabilities
Adheres to the I-CARE commitments. Maintains current knowledge and skill in clinical practice and management. Attends 10 hours of continuing education programs per year related to clinical knowledge and management practice. Identifies and plans for development needs of the staff. Coordinates and implements staff orientation. Assists employees in establishing educational goals for improvement of clinical skills and personal career goals. Initiates or assists with the planning, presenting, and evaluation of continuing education programs for unit staff. Conducts monthly unit meetings with quality assurance issues addressed. Keeps minutes of staff meetings and makes these available to all staff not in attendance. Facilitates the development of unit objectives in accordance with measurable goals in areas of quality improvement with monthly reports. Participates in the development of policies and procedures in the patient care area. Ensures unit compliance with guidelines of accrediting and regulatory agencies, unit standards of care, and best practices, and organization policies and procedures. Selects staff with qualifications appropriate to the needs of the unit. Clinical standards are met within three months of employment. Appropriate certifications attained within six months of hire (ONS Chemo/biotherapy certification). Conducts disciplinary conferences for individuals not following policy/procedure or whose actions necessitate corrective action. Documents individual counseling and disciplinary actions with employee at all times. Conducts timely and periodic performance appraisals based on pre-established standards. Ensures education of associates and compliance with quality indicators and core measures. Serves as a professional role model and mentor to motivate, develop, recruit, and retain future nursing leaders.
Aids in the development of the annual budget for the office setting and infusion centers to include personnel, operational, and capital needs. Operates the unit within the budget by monitoring the budget monthly and is responsible for assisting in the completion of a variance report as indicated. Promotes cost-effective unit operations. Monitors and orders unit supplies/pharmaceuticals and equipment maintaining adequate inventory to meet departmental needs. Assures that all equipment on the unit is operable and safe. Assumes accountability for all unit activities. Reviews or oversees the review of daily fee tickets, prior to posting, for accuracy to minimize claim rejections. Remains up-to-date on CMS and other payer requirements for prior authorization/pre-certification/pre-determination. Prepares and adjusts staffing plan based on unit census and acuity on a daily basis. Schedules are completed on time and in compliance with approved staffing plan. Serves as a role model for all unit staff by setting an example of high standards in conduct, attitude, and performance and patient/family relations. Ensures compliance with budget expectations and corporate financial goals.
Responsible for Patient Satisfaction as evidenced by positive patient satisfaction scores for office setting and infusion centers. Contributes to the patient experience as evidenced by positive patient satisfaction scores and/or written compliments by patients/others as well as consistent performance in a team environment. Oversees case managers to assist with clinical interpretation of patient needs and assists with finding resources to improve the patient experience. Ensures compliance with all patients' safety goals. Serves as a professional role model and mentor to motivate, develop, recruit, and retain future nursing leaders. Maintains an environment conducive to optimum safety for patients, visitors, and staff.
Qualifications
Education: BSN and/or related management degree OR 10+ years as RN with management experience highly recommended.
Licensure: Current Florida RN license or endorsement.
Certification: Must hold current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card. OCN certification preferred. ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification within 6 months of start date.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years acute care clinical experience preferred. Previous nursing management experience preferred.
Mechanics: Meets all qualifications required in RN job description. Sound organizational skills to include time management and problem solving. Highly developed communication skills, verbal and non-verbal. Maintains professional competencies by attending continuing education programs and participates in professional organizations. Basic computer skills utilizing the Windows environment.
Language: Must be able to speak/understand the written and verbal instructions in the English language.
Physical Demands: Must have visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform clinical tasks. Must have corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Must be able to lift, turn, pull, push or ambulate patients/equipment up to 90% of the assigned shift. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted up to 33% of the assigned shift. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and stoop up to 90% of assigned shift. Potential for exposure to biohazardous waste, and known or unknown diseases.
Mental Demands: Must have ability to display and promote the 9 commitments of service excellence. Must have ability to listen well and analyze needs from various ages and levels of education. Must have ability to access, interpret data and educate members of the healthcare team, patients, and significant others of various ages.
