Job Description
Plans, directs, and evaluates the overall clinical care and functions. Oversees the activities of the clinical areas and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the clinical team that includes nurses, medical assistants (if applicable), lab (if applicable) and pharmacy technician(s).
- Affirms patient safety, continuity of patient care and smooth office flow among all departments.
- Communicates with outside entities to assure quality and continuity of patient care.
- Supports and maintains knowledge of clinical trials and ECOG.
- Coordinates with purchasing department to ensure PAR levels are maintained to assure sufficient stock and to minimize waste.
- Collaborates with ancillary departments to ensure required annual task/education is complete and timely.
- Maintains knowledge of Nucleus medication dispensing system.
- Completes incident reports and adverse event reports.
- Ensures completion of daily variance report and resolution of unsigned charges.
- Attends and participates in monthly CNM meeting.
- Collaborates with the R-DON for nursing concerns, education, etc.
- Works with Occupational Health to ensure N95 mask testing is done yearly.
Key Performance Areas (KPA)
KPA 1 – Clinical Knowledge
- Maintains knowledge of oncology nursing and clinical operations.
- Communicates with outside entities to assure quality and continuity of patient care.
- Shares all relevant patient information with the research department and Research Coordinator.
- Oversees special procedures and chemotherapy treatments within the office.
- Oversees the completion of DME, insurance forms, FMLA and disability application forms.
- Ensures completion of daily variance report and resolution of unsigned charges.
- Coordinates with purchasing department to ensure PAR levels are maintained to assure sufficient stock and to minimize waste.
- Collaborates with ancillary departments to ensure required annual task/education is complete and timely.
- Maintains knowledge of Nucleus medication dispensing system.
- Oversees ordering of medical and pharmaceutical supplies.
- Coordinates with Office Manager for 24-hour coverage for drug refrigeration temperature monitoring and response.
- Attends and participates in monthly CNM meeting.
- Collaborates with the R-DON for nursing concerns, education, etc.
- Works with Occupational Health to ensure N95 mask testing is done yearly.
KPA 2 – Leadership
- Trains team members to provide quality services to oncology and hematology patients.
- Manages daily direction and communication to employees so that departmental work is performed in a timely, efficient and knowledgeable manner.
- Creates and maintains a positive, high quality work environment.
- Schedules clinic nurses, medical assistants (if applicable), lab (if applicable) and pharmacy technician(s) ensuring adequate coverage for increased patient schedules or staff time off.
- Facilitates nurse staff meetings on a regular basis.
- Participates and completes hiring process including interviewing applicants and assists in hiring decision with the HR recruiter for any open positions in assigned area.
- Oversees the orientation of new nurses, medical assistants (if applicable), lab (if applicable), and pharmacy technician(s) in collaboration with the nurse, pharmacy, and ancillary trainers.
- Ensures employees have appropriate training and other resources to perform their job.
- Completes and provides performance evaluation for 90 day and annual reviews for nurses, medical assistants (if applicable), lab (if applicable), and pharmacy technician(s).
- Responsible for performance feedback and coaching on a regular basis to team members.
- Reviews and approves time off requests, if appropriate, in a fair manner while ensuring adequate staffing to maintain work productivity.
- Reviews and submits timesheets to payroll for all direct reports.
- Holds monthly departmental staff meetings to communicate any issues or updates.
KPA 3 – Education and SOPs
- Utilizes and distributes available resources to team members for educational purposes.
- Aids in creation and review of clinical activities and operations.
- Coordinates and directs clinical staff to teach patient education classes and/or individual patient teaching sessions.
- Maintains and directs nursing team to follow JBIs.
- Maintains Oncology nurse certification.
KPA 4 – Compliance and SOPs
- Maintains and ensures the confidentiality of all patient and employee information at all times.
- Ensures adherence to legal and company policies and procedures and undertakes disciplinary actions if the need arises.
KPA 5 – Communication and Customer Service
- Manages and communicates all clinical policy, procedure and regulatory changes that apply to the clinical teams.
- Acts as a resource for staff regarding company policies and procedures.
- Remains current on oncology updates, therapies and procedures and shares updates with clinical staff.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with all other company employees to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working environment that will be conductive to maximize employee morale, productivity and efficiency/effectiveness.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Unencumbered RN License in the state of employment or multi-state licensure.
- Associates Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is required.
- Oncology Nurse certification (OCN) required.
- CPR certification required.
- Valid state Driver’s License for travel to satellite offices and offsite meetings.
- Compliance with the company Driver Safety Operations and Motor Vehicle Records Check Policy is required.
- Five (5) years of experience in the healthcare field in a clinic or hospital setting.
- Three (3) years of management experience preferred.

Standard Core Workdays/Hours
Monday to Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
