JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Senior Medical Officer, the position is responsible for providing direct emergency service, stabilize and safely transport patients at Project Construction sites. In addition, the position holder might be requested to assist with patient care at the main clinic and at the farm clinic as the need arises. This will include day, evening and weekend shifts.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- As a first responder, be alert and be able to conduct examinations on all patients and evaluate symptoms to determine their condition.
- Safely resuscitate patients at Project site. Be able to stop bleeding and protect the neck and airway when transporting patients. Transfer them to the main clinic or the referral hospital depending on the gravity of injury.
- Be able to intubate and ventilate patient en-route to main hospital
- Be able to perform life-saving medical procedures in a moving ambulance.
- Provide necessary TTV vaccinations and needed.
- Keep records of patients’ diseases or other significant information.
- Remain up to date with developments and best practices in medicine by reading, researching, and attending training as needed.
- Prescribe and interpret lab tests to obtain more information for underlying infections or abnormalities.
- Prescribe relevant imaging and be able to interpret imaging results.
- Refer to Radiologist appropriately for specialized imaging modalities.
- Prescribe medications or drugs and provide comprehensive instructions for administration.
- Work with clinical teams to improve the quality of clinical and diagnostic services.
- Participate in unit meetings on regular basis to give input and oversight
- Maintain a portfolio of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities.
- The incumbent will also attend the weekend and night duties in the clinics and on a rota basis.
- Any other duties assigned by the Senior Medical Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS AND MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
- Diploma in Clinical medicine, Diploma in Orthopaedic and trauma
- Certificate or proven training in Paramedic is an added advantage
- Registration with Medical Council of Malawi
- Minimum 2 years experience post internship in casualty, Emergency room and Hospital rotations.
- Previous experience as an ambulance paramedic or a construction project is an added advantage.
