Clinical Nurse (RN) - General Medical Surgical Unit (P4C)

This is a bargaining unit position for a Clinical Nurse II role open to candidates with greater than 1 year of RN work experience. This 17-bed Medical Surgical unit (P4C) provides care for adult surgical patients, including specialties in joints, vascular, bariatric, minor neurological, and gastrointestinal populations, as well as medical overflow. The unit operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per week.

In accordance with national standards of nursing practice and within the guidelines of Maine Medical Center and the Maine State Board of Nursing, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, documentation, and evaluation of nursing care. Care delivery spans the continuum from initial contact with the healthcare system and may include inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, and community settings.

The unit consists of a diverse team, including new graduates and seasoned RNs with decades of experience, offering unending learning opportunities. Candidates should be focused on outstanding patient care, team communication, and professional growth.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients and families.
• Coordinate care across the continuum, including inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, and community settings.
• Demonstrate a caring nursing practice and promote a healing environment.
• Identify changes in patients’ conditions and initiate appropriate action.
• Recognize and respond to potential crisis situations involving patients and/or families.
• Utilize interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
• Apply knowledge of research, theory, practices, principles, and processes of professional nursing.

Requirements

• Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in the state of Maine.
• At least 1 year of prior RN work experience.
• Basic knowledge of professional nursing practices and processes.
• Analytical ability to assess patient conditions and initiate appropriate care.
• Demonstrated technical skills to care for diverse patient populations on the unit.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is preferred.
• Evidence of 10 hours of ongoing education per year.
• Certification in a relevant specialty is preferred.
• Charge nurse or wound/burn experience is preferred.
• Experience caring for post-op surgical patients is strongly preferred.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $41.34 to $60.22 per hour. Compensation for part-time positions is determined on a prorated basis consistent with scheduled hours and applicable full-time equivalent (FTE).
