Clinical Nurse (RN)-Cardiac Telemetry Unit (MFT5) New Graduates Welcome

This is a Clinical Nurse I vacancy open to candidates with 0–1 year of RN work experience. This is a full-time, night-shift bargaining unit position with a target start date of October 5, 2026.

About the Unit

MFT5 is a 40-bed cardiac telemetry unit seeking highly motivated RNs to join their team at Maine Medical Center. This fast-paced diagnostic and procedural unit cares for a complex cardiac population of patients including: NSTEMI, AFIB, Unstable Angina, Advanced Heart Failure, and LVADs. The nursing team on MFT5 encompasses nurses who deliver excellent patient care, take pride in teamwork, and strive to continually develop themselves and each other professionally.

The Malone Family Tower is an eight-story addition to MaineHealth Maine Medical Center’s historic campus in Portland, Maine. It marks the culmination of a decade-long initiative to improve access to hospital-based care, increase the number of private rooms, and support better patient outcomes. The tower includes 40 pre- and post-surgical beds, 19 procedure rooms, and 96 universal patient rooms. Inspired by Maine's rugged coastline, the design features a striking faceted facade and a soaring seven-story atrium that unifies clinical spaces, fills interiors with natural light, and creates open, welcoming environments.

Summary

The Clinical Nurse supports Maine Medical Center's mission, vision, and values by exhibiting excellence, competence, collaboration, innovation, respect, patient and family-centered care, commitment to community, and accountability. In accordance with national standards of nursing practice and Maine Medical Center’s policies, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, documentation, and evaluation of nursing care. Care delivery spans the continuum from initial contact with the healthcare system and may include inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, and community settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional nursing care in alignment with national standards and Maine State Board of Nursing guidelines.
• Conduct patient assessments, diagnose nursing needs, identify outcomes, and develop care plans.
• Implement and document nursing interventions, evaluating their effectiveness.
• Coordinate patient and family care across the healthcare continuum.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Maine.
• No prior RN experience required; cardiac experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of research-based nursing practices, principles, and processes.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
• Analytical ability to identify changes in patient conditions and initiate appropriate action.

Professional Development

• New graduate RNs (less than 6 months of RN experience) are automatically enrolled in a 12-month Nurse Residency Program.
• RNs with less than 1 year of experience transferring from another organization may request individual consideration for exceptions to residency requirements.
• Clinical Nurse I who meet or exceed all criteria at the 12-month performance evaluation will be promoted to Clinical Nurse II by the Nursing Director.

Pay

The base pay range for this position is $38.27 per hour. Compensation for part-time roles is prorated based on scheduled hours and full-time equivalent (FTE).
