About the Role
St. Louis Children’s Hospital Emergency Department is a designated trauma center treating nearly 50,000 children annually. This role is part of a team providing high-quality care in a top-ranked children’s hospital with a mission to “do what’s right for kids.” The hospital is Magnet®-designated for nursing excellence and partners with Washington University School of Medicine.
Schedule
- 12-hour night shifts: 7:00 pm – 7:30 am
- Every 3rd weekend
- Holiday rotation as required by the department
Responsibilities
- Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within nursing care standards.
- Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.
- Educates patients and families on illness/injury management, post-treatment home care, and medication administration.
- Participates in patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance activities.
- Engages in professional development.
- Develops, implements, and documents individualized care plans with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patient, and family.
- Ensures communication of the care plan across the continuum of care.
- Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to care standards.
- Assesses patient preferences, barriers to care, and population-specific needs (emotional, spiritual, cultural).
This is a safety-sensitive position requiring constant alertness and safe work practices.
Requirements
- Active RN license
- Nursing Diploma or Associate’s degree (minimum requirement)
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (preferred)
- 1 year of RN experience in an Emergency Department or pediatric acute care (preferred)
