Summary
The clinical nurse manager collaborates with the director to manage the patient care unit for administrative and clinical aspects. This includes organizing, developing, directing, and assuring cost-effective, quality patient care. Patient care follows hospital, state, federal, Joint Commission, and ANA policies, procedures, regulations, ethics, and standards.
Key Accountabilities
- Serves as a clinical resource, role model, and mentor for patient care delivery.
- Promotes clinical and leadership skills development for assistant nurse managers and clinical staff.
- Participates in performance improvement to enhance patient outcomes.
- Manages administrative aspects of the unit, including organizing, developing, and directing operations.
- Demonstrates knowledge of resource consumption.
- Maintains expertise in customer service and satisfaction.
- Delivers in-services and staff development programs.
- Captures new employee orientation with unit-specific training.
- Represents the unit director in assigned committees.
- Ensures HIPAA compliance, including minimum necessary requirements for staff under supervision.
- Fulfills Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) responsibilities during emergencies or disasters.
- Knows hospital emergency codes and adheres to related policies and procedures.
Education
- Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field (or equivalent competencies/experience).
- Preferred: Master's degree in Nursing, Education, Management, or related field (or equivalent competencies).
Experience
- Two years in clinical specialty (Trauma ICU).
- One year supervisory or management experience.
- Working knowledge of quality improvement and Joint Commission standards.
Qualifications
- Managerial experience relating to diverse individuals.
- National certification in specialty strongly preferred.
