About the role
The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium is seeking a skilled and experienced individual to lead nursing units and programs. This role requires a deep understanding of nursing science and the ability to manage a team effectively.
Responsibilities
- Assists with the development of the operational budget and monitors expenses and productivity.
- Develops and implements effective educational programs designed to assist the staff in the progression from novice to expert in the care of the patient and family.
- Evaluates staff competency by direct observation, peer review, orientation and employee input and documents this in the appropriate system.
- Completes performance evaluations in a timely manner.
- Contributes to nursing management education and professional development of staff, students, and colleagues in an environment of mutual respect and understanding.
- Interviews and hires staff.
- Participates in corrective disciplinary action decisions.
- Retains and recruits staff.
- Makes decisions regarding appropriate staffing levels based on patient acuity.
- Monitors and evaluates appropriate utilization of staff in collaboration with hospital-wide stakeholders.
- Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and nursing services, analyzing appropriate internal and external data and information to identify opportunities for improving services and patient outcomes.
- Ensures quality of care to patients and families.
- Promotes satisfaction of internal and external customers.
- Collects and analyzes data of performance improvement and quality assurance data related to medication management.
- Promotes and monitors regulatory agency standards and customer service expectations for the practice of all aspects of nursing.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
- Minimum Experience Qualification: Three (3) years increasing responsibility in clinical nursing, one (1) of which must be in a supervisory position.
- Minimum Certification Qualifications: Current registered nurse license in the State of Alaska. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card required.
- Knowledge of nursing science, principles, techniques, and procedures for the care of patients.
- Knowledge of healthcare terminology, anatomy, physiology and concepts of disease.
- Knowledge and ability to utilize evidence based practice to develop the plan of care and interventions.
- Knowledge of the hospital environment and understanding of how the services and functions interact.
- Knowledge of nursing theorists and ability to provide theory based care for patients.
- Knowledge of shared governance environment with shared-decision making.
- Skills in critical thinking to provide effective and compassionate nursing care, assessing patient situations and taking effective courses of action.
- Skills in providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Skills in providing effective nursing services, assessing patient situations and taking effective courses of action.
- Skills in assessing and prioritizing multiple requests by patients, families, and team members.
- Skills in evaluating health problems, and making recommendations based on observations.
- Skills in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
