Department Job Description Summary

Prompts planning, organizing and directing activities of all unit staff available on the shift.
Manages during complex/stressful situations. Ensures timely and appropriate actions and follows up on the effectiveness of the solution.
Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating relevant and timely information.
Responsibilities
- Performs Daily Dialogues on a consistent and reliable basis taking maximum advantage of the 15 minutes allocated to the meeting.
- Schedule: Timely prepares and communicates the Unit's monthly schedule, balancing patient acuity, census, staff skills, experience, availability and special requests to minimize overtime use and to meet budgetary needs.
- Staff availability: Identifies staffing patterns to cover the unit's needs around the clock and performs daily adjustment to schedule and proactively calls team members if the Operation needs help.
- Payroll: Verifies and updates payroll system on a daily basis and troubleshoots with Director and pending issue.
- Weekly Dialogue: Actively participates in the Weekly Dialouge, contributes with his/her ideas and follows up on assigned tasks.
- Process Confirmation: Executes all Process Confirmations scheduled for the shift. Provides immediate feedback to employee (strengths & opportunity areas), updates tracking tool and adds comments.
- Incidents Reporting: Timely reports incidents and discusses with Director opportunities and solutions to prevent incident from reoccurring.
- Licenses and Accreditations: Ensures all Nurses have all appropriate licenses/accreditations, keeps track and anticipates due dates.
- Interviews potential candidates and ensures qualified "Preceptors" are able to meet, talk and provide feedback on candidates potential.
- Ensures new employee onboarding is effective and that he/she feel welcomed and appreciated from his/her very first day at work.
- Continuously develops a strong and reliable nursing team by motivating, coaching, evaluating, counseling (PIP) and disciplining employees.
- Continuously monitors team members performance and does appraisal meetings twice a year. Reinforces desired behaviors and defines action plans to correct/improve opportunity areas.
- Provides continuous and effective coaching to his/her team to ensure employee feels that he/she is appreciated, that he/she is developing his/her skills, and that he has a sponsor to guide him/her on career path decisions.
- Provides clinical and operational training to new and exisiting employees.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies.
- Ensures correct operation and availability of medical and administrative equipment by tracking equipment inventories and location.
- Ensures preventative maintenance has been performed according to schedule and troubleshoots malfunctions with proper department.
- Helps evaluate new equipment.
- Troubleshoots nursing supplies inventory shortages to maintain operation running during the shift.
- Requests Director's Requisitions.
- Keeps updated on System knowledge, understanding data entry, maintenance and reporting processes.
- Enforces compliance of safety, clinical/operational processes, procedures and policies, state board of nursing and state nurse practice act requirements and to other governing agency regulations.
- Enforces infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration administration, storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
- Enforces compliance of HR Personnel policies, procedures and proactively work to reinforce Service Keys and desired behaviors.
- Provides Director with feedback, insights and opportunities obtained during Process Confirmations.
- Maintains strict patient confidential information processing according to HIPAA regulations.
- Continuously obtains updated information about the Key Performance Indicators chosen by leadership for the unit (Clinical and Experience KPI's).
- For each Key Performance Indicator memorizes Unit goals set by Nursing Leadership.
- Analyze gap between Performance Outcomes vs. standards and makes observations/recommendations to Director.
- Communicates to the Team, during every Daily Dialogue, the Unit's current results, gaps vs. objective and action plans (if any) to improve.
- Requests feedback and ideas from the team on how to improve the metric.
- Promotes a healthy work environment by facilitating open communication, team work and constantly celebrating team achievements.
- Continuously recognize individuals for observed desired behaviors and communicates to Director and Team during the Daily Dialoge.
- Acts as main communication liaison with other departments and coordinates inter-departmental problem troubleshooting.
- Ensures facilities are constantly clean and well maintained. Works with Engineering and Environmental Services (EVS) to resolve all issues.
- Continuously communicates to the Team, during Daily Dialogue, the Unit's cost compliance (Overtime, materials usage/waste, etc.).
- Supports MSMC's Performance Improvement Program to increase patient/family, physician and employee satisfaction by: a) Monitoring & Analyzing Performance Indicators b) Identifying improvement opportunities, understanding root causes, discussing/defining potential solutions and bringing them to the weekly Dialogue c) Implementing new concepts/cross-organizational initiatives and make changes with minimal inconvenience to patients, physicians and employees.
- Makes an emotional connection with all patients during his/her rounds by taking the necessary time to listen, "repeating back" to ensure understanding of Patient's needs and emotions ("Most Important Thing") and by answering any questions or requests.
- Edits and counsels patient, friends, and family to reinforce their understanding of disease, medications, plan of care and self-care skills.
- Talks in clear, unhurried manner and reinforces Key Words and Questions relevant to the HCAHPS Survey.
- Provides 2nd troubleshooting level by immediately resolving patient needs troubleshooting with a multidisciplinary team approach.
Qualifications
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida is required.
- BLS/ACLS required. If in cost center NURSING- 6 DE HMT SOUTH RN is required to obtain Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate within 90 days of employment.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred.
- Nursing leadership experience preferred.
