Clinical Nurse Gyn Oncology

This role is on a unique 30-bed unit that provides care to female patients hospitalized for female-related issues, with a primary focus on GYN Oncology. This includes chemotherapy, surgery, radiation, symptom management, pain management, palliative care, and hospice care. The care is moderate to high acuity and involves high-complexity interventions. Care is coordinated by a multidisciplinary team including oncology-trained nurses, advanced practice nurses, case managers, social workers, spiritual care, pharmacy, psycho-social support, and our physician team.

The hospital's staff includes full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by residents, interns, fellows, and other medical professionals. Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

About the Role

This is a full-time position with three 12-hour night shifts per week.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.
  • Educates patients and their families on managing illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs and medication administration.
  • Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in professional development.
  • Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patient, family, or caregiver in accordance with established guidelines and standards of nursing care.
  • Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
  • Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
  • Assesses patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.

BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • No prior experience required
  • No supervisory experience required
  • RN license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
