About the role

The Clinical Nurse Educator/Supervisor is required to comply with operational mandates from UCOP for system-wide compliance required of Student Health Centers. This position facilitates teamwork among the multidisciplinary staff and coordinates with the Nursing Director in regards to staffing, strategic planning and general administrative duties. Functions as advisor to unit and administration. Analyzes and resolves problems, interprets policies and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of department resources in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Hires, trains and conducts performance evaluations for all direct reports.
  • Provides supervision and coaching to assigned staff.
  • Manages employee work schedules for summer and furlough periods and approval of time off requests using Timekeeping.
  • Implements disciplinary action as necessary.
  • Complies with institutional, professional and regulatory agency standards, policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Interprets policy, procedures, regulatory requirements, guidelines and standards and facilitates staff compliance as appropriate.
  • Manages the Clinical Nurse Services, Immunization Clinic, and other nursing clinics to ensure that services meet daily patient demands.
  • Serves on appointed and elected committees.
  • Duties may include writing and presenting of reports and acting as a liaison between committees and other community groups.
  • Aids in developing policies, procedures, and protocols in collaboration with other health and administrative personnel to ensure quality patient care and meet accreditation standards.
  • Oversees the process for monitoring and documenting the cleaning, high-level disinfection and/or sterilization of the clinic environment, medical equipment, instruments, according to manufacturer's directions and regulatory guidelines.
  • Participates in the orientation of all new employees regarding infection control and prevention practices at SHS.
  • Provides continuing education programs and in-services on various relevant aspects of infection control and prevention to all staff.
  • Analyzes biannual laboratory STI statistics and antibiograms for MRSA and urine cultures as well as other relevant laboratory data.
  • Makes sure to monitor for signs of organism resistance and infectious disease outbreaks and, in conjunction with the Nursing Director and Medical Director, initiates programs to respond to changes in order to prevent disease spread.
  • Collaborates with the Santa Barbara Public Health Department to coordinate outbreak investigations and contact treatment and follow up.
  • Disseminates relevant information and precautions to the staff, campus administration and community as indicated.
  • Organizes and oversees mass immunization clinics, ensuring clinical safety and appropriate public health messages to the student community.
  • Acts as a knowledgeable resource for staff concerning infection control and prevention matters.
  • Is responsible for follow up and reporting of any and all staff, patient, or visitor exposure to communicable disease including acting as a liaison with EH&S and filing a CMR with the Public Health Department.
  • Is responsible for coordinating immunization data obtaining through CAIR in the EHR for student compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in supervising a medical care unit or equivalent.
  • 4-6 years solid nursing experience.
  • Current and valid California State RN license.
  • CPR certification.
  • CIC Certification (or must be obtained within 2 years from date of hire).
  • Knowledge of clinical policies and procedures, of clinical practices in medical terminology, of infection control standards, of medical records and computer skills and common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Ability to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, physicians, advance care providers, other members of the healthcare team, community resources, as well as the campus community.
  • To organize and prioritize work and to follow written instructions.
  • Skilled in identifying problems and recommending solutions.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, management, patients, medical staff, the public, and the campus as a whole and accepting constructive criticism and giving suggestions in a professional manner.

Qualifications

Pay

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $119,400/year to $150,564/year. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full salary range for this position is $119,400 to $230,800/year.

Schedule

Mon.-Fri., 8 am-5 pm (May require some evening hours).
