About the role

This position involves receiving and preparing specimens according to standard protocols and procedures, performing laboratory tests and calculations, maintaining and monitoring equipment, and performing phlebotomy procedures. The role also includes evaluating test performance and results, and maintaining confidentiality of patient related information.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and specialized laboratory testing independently without error, within established time frames
  • Analyzes and records quality control and instrument maintenance/troubleshooting, taking appropriate action when results are out of control
  • Escalates issues when necessary and ensures adequate documentation of corrective actions
  • Adheres to regulatory compliance guidelines and maintains awareness of accreditation standards for laboratories
  • Fulfills performance improvement opportunities by collecting and analyzing data, supporting business development, and managing supply and reagent inventory
  • Adapts behavior to specific patient populations, ensuring privacy, clear communication, and adherence to safety guidelines
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Preferred Education: Bachelor's in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science
  • Preferred Certifications: Current Clinical Lab Scientist license (generalist or specialist for hiring department) in the state of practice (if applicable), OR Trainee permit or Lab Assistant license in the state of practice (if applicable) and must obtain Clinical Lab Scientist license for generalist or specialist for hiring department within 90 days of hire
  • Preferred Certifications: ASCP, AMT or AAB certification (generalist or specialist for hiring department) as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist must be obtained within 90 days of hire
  • Minimum Education: Associate's Degree/College Diploma in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science
  • Minimum Work Experience: Hospital or Clinical Laboratory Testing experience preferred
  • Physical Demands: Heavy Work, including lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally and up to 25-50 pounds frequently
