About the role

Manages the daily operations of the assigned department, unit, or function to ensure alignment with departmental and organizational objectives. May provide direct care to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, implements, and evaluates patient care based on patient assessment to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources.
  • Monitors, documents, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance.
  • Assists with the identification, determination, and need for systems, equipment, and supplies.
  • Monitors usage and oversees proper working order of equipment, ensuring adequate supplies.
  • Assists with developing specific departmental goals, standards, and objectives which directly support the strategic plan and vision of the organization.
  • Assesses the quality of patient care delivered.
  • Evaluates needs of patients and families and provides patient and family-centered care.
  • Manages complaints and conflicts through to resolution.
  • Manages staff relations including performance management, staff satisfaction, and conflict management. May oversee scheduling, recruitment, payroll, and student engagements.

Requirements

  • Accredited Nursing Program (Required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross (multiple accepted formats listed in posting)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification for Pediatric areas (except NICU) from the American Heart Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, or Red Cross
  • Registered Nurse (RN) License in the State of Florida or a Compact RN Multistate License
  • Two (2) years of nursing experience required
  • ONCC Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Certificate required for RNs administering chemotherapy
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required for ICU, ED, PACU, Endo, Tele, OB, MHN Pre-Op, and Specialty Procedural areas
  • Certification in Fetal Monitoring (Intermediate or Advanced) through the National Credential Center or AWOHNN for Labor & Delivery RNs
  • Newly licensed RNs have 6 months to obtain ACLS, PALS, and/or Fetal Monitoring if applicable

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Exposure to biohazardous waste, biological hazards (respiratory, skin, ingestion), blood and/or bodily fluids, communicable diseases/pathogens, hazardous chemicals, hazardous medications, needles/sharp objects, and cytotoxic chemicals (frequent, 60-80%)
  • Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, walking, standing, lifting/carrying patients 35+ pounds, pushing/pulling 0-75 lbs (non-patient), keyboard entry, and repetitive hand/arm movement (60-80%)
  • Moderate climbing, kneeling, moving mechanical parts, potential electric shock, potential for physical assault, and exposure to gas/vapors/fumes (40%)
  • Occasional sitting, lifting/carrying 25-75 lbs (non-patient), and exposure to magnetic fields (40%)
  • Minimal exposure to domestic animals, dust, fire risk, laser/high-intensity lights, radiation, and unprotected heights (0-40%)
  • No exposure to asbestos, extreme heat/cold, hypoxia, sudden decompression during flights, or wet/slippery surfaces (0%)
  • Requires near and far vision, hearing acuity, smelling acuity, and taste discrimination (40-80%)
