Clinical Laboratory Technician

About the role

The Division of Clinical Pathology at Montefiore Medical Center is responsible for laboratory testing of blood, urine, and body fluids for disease diagnosis and health maintenance. Utilizing advanced computer technology, the lab maintains millions of dollars of state-of-the-art equipment across multiple sites.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and emergency tests on blood, serum, spinal fluid and other body fluids using automated and manual equipment.
• Maintain quality control data on tests performed, resolve QC failures, and document actions as stipulated by laboratory procedures.
• Prepare reagents and take inventory, advising supervisor as needed.
• Maintain all records of work performed and keep maintenance logs of equipment.
• Assist with answering the telephone and performing order entry in the LIS system, as necessary.
• Aid in the training of new employees.
• Maintain a clean work area in accordance with Infection Control guidelines.
• Perform other laboratory-related tasks under the direction of a supervisor, as required.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree in Medical Technology or Science or higher is required.
• One year of work experience is required.
• New York State Clinical Laboratory Technician License or a limited permit is required.
• Applicants must obtain the provisional permit within the probationary period of three months for continued employment.
• Prior to obtaining the provisional permit, associates may not release any patient reports.

Qualifications

• Laboratory and hospital information system computers, variety of automated equipment, and other laboratory equipment are required.

Benefits

Work shifts are evening, with alternate weekends. The schedule varies and includes 4.5 hours per day.

Pay

The hourly rate is $43.79. The rate could be subject to change based on shift differential, experience, education, or other relevant factors.

Schedule

Hours vary, typically from 6:00pm to 9:45pm, with alternate weekends.

Skills

Must be able to work independently, solve technical and procedural problems, and maintain clean work areas according to Infection Control guidelines.
