Clinical Laboratory Technician 1

We are seeking a Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) 1 to join the Specimen Processing Team at UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA. This role is crucial in the diagnostic process of laboratory testing, directly impacting patient care through specimen processing, blood draws, and customer service.

The Specimen Procurement Team values diversity, collaboration, and a supportive work culture. You will contribute to the timely and accurate diagnosis of patients at UW Medicine and beyond.

Responsibilities

• Perform specimen processing tasks, including receiving, sorting, and prioritizing specimens and requests, matching specimens against requisitions, centrifuging and aliquoting specimens, processing timed urine collections, and reviewing entries for reference lab testing.
• Perform blood draws on patients and handle various computer functions related to specimen processing.
• Provide excellent customer service by responding promptly and professionally to inquiries from patients, clients, and hospital and laboratory staff.
• Orient and train new employees, participate in performance improvement activities, and support accreditation standards (JCAHO, CLIA, CAP).
• Resolve specimen and order-related problems accurately and document them for supervisor review.

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent AND one of the following:
  • One year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience.
  • Completion of a laboratory assistant course approved by the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience (except where legal requirements apply).
• Medical Assistant – Phlebotomist (MA-P) certification with the Washington State Department of Health OR obtain the certification within 180 days of start date.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in science (desired).
• Experience in a major medical hospital laboratory (desired).
• Experience with a Laboratory Information System (LIS) (desired).

Pay

Pay range: $26.33 – $38.29 hourly.

Schedule

• 100% FTE (full-time).
• Evening shift (schedule to be discussed with hiring manager).
• This is a regular, union-represented position (SEIU 1199NW).
