Clinical Laboratory Scientist - night shift

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate and timely performance of tests requested by physicians and facilities.
  • Follow laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Identify and handle specimens correctly, including verifying patient name, specimen number, type, and time of draw.
  • Maintain specimen integrity from collection to testing.
  • Handle potentially infectious materials according to safety protocols.
  • Document proficiency testing sample results and quality control activities.
  • Calibrate instruments and assess their accuracy; perform preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Review and document all test results, including accepting or rejecting results based on discrepancies, requesting redos, and canceling results due to issues like hemolysis, clots, or insufficient sample.
  • Interact with nurses and physicians, and assist in maintaining adequate supplies and inventory levels.
  • Prioritize work duties and adapt to administrative changes in staffing and scheduling.
  • Develop and install quality control standards, review and solve quality control problems, and implement technical and administrative changes as approved by the Laboratory Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in medical technology, microbiology, chemistry, biology, or a related field.
  • General Supervisor license issued by the State of California.
  • Meet CLIA requirements for testing personnel in High Complexity Testing.
  • Work independently and make sound analytical judgments under stress.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
  • Be adaptable to a fast-paced environment and interact with various professionals.
  • Show speed, consistency, and accuracy in tasks to meet laboratory standards.
  • Be customer service-oriented, self-starting, and a good problem and decision-maker.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in work environment and perform a variety of tasks.
  • Commit to tasks and display high cognitive, interpretive, and judgment skills.
