Responsibilities
- Performs routine laboratory procedures including specimen processing and handling, testing of patient specimens, calculating, and reporting of results.
- Maintains and troubleshoots laboratory instrumentation and equipment, and notifies Bio-med as needed.
- Cross-trains to other laboratory sections as needed.
- Affirms the laboratory's quality control program.
- Calculates, enters, and verifies results of laboratory procedures using the Laboratory Information System.
- Notifies and documents critical laboratory values.
- Processes patient specimens, including collection, handling, and distribution.
- Evaluates, develops, and implements new or updated testing procedures and protocols.
- Adapts patient care methods to meet individual patient needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting CLIA requirements.
- One year of approved clinical laboratory experience, including a clinical rotation through Blood Banking, Microbiology, Chemistry, and Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids, within the last 5 years, or 5 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).
- Certification for MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from ASCP, AMT, AAB, or HEW/HHS within one year of hire.
