Responsibilities

  • Adhere to laboratory procedures for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
  • Follow established quality control policies and procedures, documenting all corrective actions when necessary.
  • Identify and address potential issues affecting test performance, either independently or by notifying supervisors.
  • Perform a variety of laboratory procedures, utilizing both manual and automated methods in disciplines such as Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and others.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment, as needed.
  • Review and verify the accuracy of patient test results before release or reporting.
  • Recognize and account for age-specific variations in test results.
  • Collaborate with other laboratories to ensure accurate reporting of proficiency testing results.
  • May perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on patients of various ages.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Comply with department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
  • In the absence of a supervisor, assume responsibility for the section or department during their shift.
  • May be assigned additional responsibilities related to Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) or Point-of-Care Testing (POCT).

Qualifications

  • ASCP certification, or equivalent, preferred.
  • One year hospital laboratory work experience preferred, but not required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1423).
  • Current and valid state license if the laboratory is located in a state where required.
  • Preference given to candidates with experience in Chem, Hema, and Blood Bank areas.

Department: Laboratory Schedule: Part Time 7a-3:30p and rotating weekends Facility: Prime Healthcare St Francis Hospital (position will be working out of both our Skokie and Evanston Infusion Centers) Location: Evanston, IL

Pay

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $26.50 to $38.38. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
