Responsibilities
- Adhere to laboratory procedures for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
- Follow established quality control policies and procedures, documenting all corrective actions when necessary.
- Identify and address potential issues affecting test performance, either independently or by notifying supervisors.
- Perform a variety of laboratory procedures, utilizing both manual and automated methods in disciplines such as Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and others.
- Ensure proper maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment, as needed.
- Review and verify the accuracy of patient test results before release or reporting.
- Recognize and account for age-specific variations in test results.
- Collaborate with other laboratories to ensure accurate reporting of proficiency testing results.
- May perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on patients of various ages.
- Assist in developing and maintaining laboratory policies and procedures.
- Comply with department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
- In the absence of a supervisor, assume responsibility for the section or department during their shift.
- May be assigned additional responsibilities related to Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) or Point-of-Care Testing (POCT).
Qualifications
- ASCP certification, or equivalent, preferred.
- One year hospital laboratory work experience preferred, but not required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1423).
- Current and valid state license if the laboratory is located in a state where required.
- Preference given to candidates with experience in Chem, Hema, and Blood Bank areas.
