Responsibilities

  • Perform waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by California regulations, adhering to the laboratory’s procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
  • Follow established quality control policies and document corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance specifications.
  • Identify and address problems that may adversely affect test performance, notifying supervisors as needed.
  • Perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using both manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and other disciplines.
  • Perform and document maintenance on instruments and equipment as required (daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed).
  • Review the accuracy of patient results prior to releasing or reporting.
  • Recognize age-specific differences in expected results for patients from newborns to geriatrics.
  • Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples, without collaboration with other laboratories prior to reporting results.
  • Perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on patients of all ages, from newborns to geriatrics, as required.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
  • In the absence of a supervisor, may serve as Lead Tech with responsibility for the section or department during a shift.
  • May be assigned responsibilities related to Point-of-Care Testing (POCT).
  • Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager or director.

Requirements

  • Minimum one-year work experience performing high complexity testing in hematology, chemistry, blood bank, and microbiology, or completion of an approved internship training program. Training or experience must comprehensively cover all areas of the clinical laboratory.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in biological science, chemical, physical, or biological science, Medical Laboratory Technology, or equivalent from an accredited institution, or meet other educational requirements as stated in California Code of Registration, Title 17, Section 1032, Clinical Laboratory Scientist (generalist).
  • Current and valid California State License as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.

Pay

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role is $48.00 per hour. The exact starting compensation will be determined based on factors such as skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials, and licensure.

Schedule

Per Diem, variable shift.
