Responsibilities

• Perform waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by California regulations, commensurate with education, training, and experience.
• Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
• Follow established quality control policies, documenting corrective actions for test system deviations.
• Identify and resolve problems affecting test performance, escalating to supervisors as needed.
• Conduct a wide variety of laboratory procedures in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and other disciplines.
• Perform and document maintenance on instruments and equipment (daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed).
• Review the accuracy of patient results prior to release.
• Recognize age-specific differences in expected results (newborns to geriatrics).
• Ensure proficiency testing samples are handled identically to patient samples; prohibit collaboration with other labs prior to reporting results.
• Perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on patients of all ages (newborn to geriatric).
• Assist in developing and maintaining laboratory policies and procedures.
• Adhere to department and hospital policies for safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
• Serve as Lead Tech in the absence of a supervisor, overseeing the section or department during a shift.
• Handle responsibilities related to Point-of-Care Testing (POCT).
• Complete other tasks or responsibilities assigned by the department manager/director.

Requirements

• Minimum one-year work experience performing high-complexity testing in hematology, chemistry, blood bank, and microbiology, or completion of an approved internship training program covering all clinical laboratory areas.
• Bachelor’s Degree in biological science, chemical science, physical science, Medical Laboratory Technology, or equivalent from an accredited institution (or meet educational requirements per California Code of Registration, Title 17, Section 1032).
• Current and valid California State License as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (generalist).

Pay

The estimated compensation range for this role is $51.20 to $51.20 per hour. The exact starting compensation will be determined based on factors such as skillset, experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
