Responsibilities

• Perform waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by California regulations, commensurate with education, training, and experience.
• Adhere to laboratory procedures for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
• Follow established quality control policies, documenting corrective actions for test system deviations.
• Identify and resolve problems affecting test performance, notifying supervisors as needed.
• Perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures using independent judgment, including manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and other disciplines.
• Perform and document maintenance on instruments and equipment as required (daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed).
• Review the accuracy of patient results prior to release or reporting.
• Recognize age-specific differences in expected results for patients from newborns to geriatrics.
• Ensure proficiency testing samples are handled identically to patient samples; prohibit collaboration with other laboratories prior to reporting results.
• Perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on patients of all ages, from newborn to geriatric.
• Assist in developing and maintaining laboratory policies and procedures.
• Adhere to all department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
• In the absence of a supervisor, may serve as Lead Tech with responsibility for the section or department during a shift.
• May be assigned responsibilities related to Point-of-Care Testing (POCT).
• Complete other tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the department manager or director.

Requirements

• Minimum one-year work experience performing high complexity testing in hematology, chemistry, blood bank, and microbiology, or completion of an approved internship training program covering all areas of the clinical laboratory.
• Bachelor’s Degree in biological science, chemical, physical, or biological science, Medical Laboratory Technology, or equivalent from an accredited institution, as specified in California Code of Registration, Title 17, Section 1032.
• Current and valid California State License as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (generalist).

Pay

The estimated compensation for this role is $43.72 per hour. The exact starting compensation will be determined based on factors such as skillset, experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
