Clinical Laboratory Scientist, CLS

Responsibilities

• Adhere to laboratory procedures for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
• Follow established quality control policies and procedures, documenting all corrective actions when necessary.
• Identify and address issues affecting test performance independently or report them to supervisors.
• Perform a variety of laboratory procedures, including manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and other disciplines.
• Perform and document regular maintenance on instruments and equipment.
• Review and verify the accuracy of patient results before release or reporting.
• Recognize and account for age-specific variations in test results.
• Ensure proficiency testing samples are analyzed in the same manner as patient samples and collaborate only after reporting results to relevant authorities.
• May perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups.
• Aid in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
• Comply with department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
• In the absence of a supervisor, may assume responsibility for the section or department during their shift.
• May be assigned responsibilities related to Point-of-Care Testing (POCT).
• Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year of work experience performing high complexity testing in hematology, chemistry, blood bank, and microbiology, or completed an approved internship training program.
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in biological science, chemical, physical, biological science, Medical Laboratory Technology, or equivalent from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as stated in California Code of Registration, Title 17, Section 1032, Clinical Laboratory Scientist (generalist).
• Licenses: Current and valid California State License.

The current compensation range for this role is $45.45 to $61.50 per hour. The exact starting compensation will be determined at the time of selection, considering factors such as skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
