Clinical Laboratory Assistant I

About the role

Atlantic Health CentraState Medical Center, located in Freehold, New Jersey, is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Assistant for the Evening Shift.

Responsibilities

• Performs patient registration and test ordering, verifies patient information, ensures timely specimen handling, and resolves processing issues to maintain accuracy and efficient workflow.
• Evaluates and prepares specimens for testing, ensuring proper labeling, distribution, storage, and processing according to established guidelines.
• Affords support to technical Team Members by performing duties assigned in loading of samples, performing maintenance.
• Operates laboratory equipment according to procedures, troubleshoots issues or contacts support, documents temperatures, and maintains a clean, organized workspace as required.
• Maintains supply inventory, checks expiration dates, stores received items and keeps the storage areas clean and organized.
• Demonstrates proficiency in the use of HIS and LIS software applications for job-related functions.
• Affords assistance with training of new team members or students as required.
• Completes mandatory continuing education.
• Follows PPE protocols and ensures a clean, safe workspace.
• Follows all approved standard operating policies and procedures

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.
• 2 years related experience required.
• 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory or equivalent, with demonstrated proficiency in patient registration, specimen handling, medical terminology, and laboratory information systems preferred.
• Medical terminology experience preferred.
• Experience performing healthcare patient registration preferred.

Skills

Proficiency in the use of HIS and LIS software applications for job-related functions.
