Summary
Collects blood and urine specimens, manages consumable material restocking, and assists with specimen collection procedures. Manages inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy procedures.Responsibilities
- Collects blood and urine specimens, including instructions, education, handling, packing, storage, and shipping to laboratories.
- Maintains a clean, well-stocked outpatient phlebotomy draw room and other supplies.
- Performs aliquot procedures, retrieves central storage specimens and reagents.
- Provides clerical and call center duties such as staffing, filing, document quality control, and surveillance data collection.
- Trains family and hospital personnel on specimen collection procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- No formal education required.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Entry-level experience not required, but prior phlebotomy experience is strongly preferred.
Qualifications
- Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification from the American Allied Health recommended.
