About the role

The Technical Supervisor is responsible for the technical and administrative management of the clinical laboratory, overseeing general chemistry assays, immunoassays, hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis, as well as specimen processing. This position reports to the Administrative Director and Medical Director and is responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and maintaining a safe working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Implements and monitors quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Maintains laboratory accreditation and ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Ensures adherence to and enforces safety standards and protocols to protect staff and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Manages inventory of supplies and reagents, ensuring that the lab is well-stocked.
  • Maintains and ensures accurate documentation and reporting of laboratory activities, test results, and quality control measures.
  • Identifies areas for improvement in laboratory processes and implements changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Works with other departments, healthcare providers, and stakeholders to support patient care and laboratory services.
  • Oversees the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Oversees the budget, manages expenses, and optimizes resource allocation.
  • Supervises staff, defining and communicating clear expectations, providing regular constructive feedback, and evaluating performance against objectives.
  • Mentors and coaches staff, facilitating training opportunities and supporting career growth.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field such as biology, chemistry, or medical technology.
  • At least 5–7 years of experience in a moderate or high-complexity clinical laboratory, with at least 5 years in the subspecialties of Chemistry or Hematology.
  • MT/MLS (ASCP) certification is required.
  • Direct supervision of Assistant Laboratory Supervisors, Medical Technologists, Laboratory Assistants, and Specimen Processing Technicians.

Qualifications

  • In-depth understanding of laboratory procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Familiarity with various types of laboratory tests and their clinical significance.
  • Awareness of relevant regulations and standards, such as CLIA, TJC, CAP, and OSHA.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with legal and accreditation requirements.
  • Skills in implementing and monitoring quality control and quality assurance programs.
  • Ability to analyze data to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Strong leadership skills to manage and motivate a team.
  • Knowledge of staff training, development, and performance evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate work and produce results.
  • Demonstrated reliability and dependability.
  • Ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Flexibility and critical thinking skills to address operational challenges in a constantly changing environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with staff, healthcare providers, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Competence in maintaining detailed records and documentation.
  • Skills in managing budgets and optimizing resource allocation.
  • Ability to make cost-effective decisions without compromising quality.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and other relevant software.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and innovations in the field.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 6:00 am - 3 pm
