About the role
The Department of Family Medicine of the Keck School of Medicine of USC provides care for every member of the family, across generations and over lifetimes. We aim to enhance the quality of life for underserved and vulnerable patients while educating future generations of highly skilled, compassionate primary care specialists. Our goal is to combine education, patient advocacy, and evidence-based research to advance family medicine and geriatrics.
USC Street Medicine is hiring a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP), Clinical Instructor of Family Medicine (Practitioner), to deliver care directly to patients experiencing homelessness in their own environments—under bridges, in encampments, and on the street. This is a unique opportunity to help advance the field of street medicine in Los Angeles, home to the largest unsheltered homeless population in the United States.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, the APP will provide diagnostic, therapeutic, preventive, and health maintenance services under the direction and supervision of a licensed physician.
Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive care addressing physical health, mental health, and substance use disorders for individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness in the City of Los Angeles.
- Work as part of an interprofessional Neighborhood Primary Care Team, including an Advanced Practice Provider, Community Health Worker, and nursing support.
- Teach Physician Assistant students, medical students, Family Medicine residents, and other learners during street-based rounds.
Team members will also be supported by USC Street Medicine’s broader system of care, including HIV Medicine, Women’s Health, Addiction Medicine, Psychiatry, Behavioral Health Therapy, Social Work, and Enhanced Care Management.
City of Los Angeles Neighborhood Primary Care Teams
USC Street Medicine operates 6 Neighborhood Primary Care Teams in the City of Los Angeles: Eastside, Central, South LA, Mid-City, Hollywood, and MacArthur Park.
Requirements
- Current Advanced Practitioner License (PA, NP, etc.)
Qualifications
- Preferred: 3 years of experience
- Preferred: Experience working with the homeless population
- Preferred: Experience with treatment of Substance Use Disorders
- Preferred: Experience with Primary Care and Mental Health treatments
Schedule
This is a full-time, exempt, in-person position based in Los Angeles, CA, with work conducted in the field. This role does not offer a hybrid or remote schedule.
The schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Pay
The annual base salary range for this position is $135,000 - $150,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
