Clinical Fellow Obstetrics & Gynae (Advanced laparoscopy Surgery)

About the role

We are offering an opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our well-integrated team. The successful candidate will participate in the registrar on-call rota, covering both gynaecology and obstetrics, including delivery suite cover, acute gynaecology, and early pregnancy. The on-call rota is 1 in 8, including nights and weekends.

Daytime activities include endometriosis clinics, chronic pelvic pain clinics, general gynaecology, and rapid access. There will be protected opportunities to work in theatre with the endometriosis and oncology team, including robotic theatre. Weekly protected time will be allocated for projects or management work, with opportunities to engage in large-scale audit projects.

Responsibilities

• Participate in on-call cover on a 1 in 8 rolling basis.
• Support daytime activities, including clinics, day case procedures, and theatres.
• Engage in departmental audit, teaching, and risk management.
• Work in theatres that routinely run 3-session days into the evening, with regular 3-session days reflected in pay and rota.
• Work with an allocated educational and clinical supervisor to collect portfolio evidence and develop skills in your area of interest.

Requirements

Education and Qualifications

• Essential:
  • Primary Medical Qualification.
  • Full GMC registration or eligibility to obtain this within 3 months (or within 6 months for non-EEA applicants).
• Desirable:
  • MRCOG.

Clinical Skills and Knowledge

• Essential:
  • Good history and examination skills.
  • Ability to carry out basic caesarean section independently.
  • Competent at instrumental delivery.
  • Able to safely run labour ward with consultant support.
  • Able to order appropriate investigations and interpret images relevant to practice.
  • Knows when to seek assistance from a senior colleague.
  • Can perform operative laparoscopy, including cystectomy, adhesiolysis, and minor treatment to endometriosis independently.
• Desirable:
  • Experience in robotic theatre, including set-up and assisting.

Management and Administration Experience

• Essential:
  • Ability to run a service and participate in management processes.
  • Commitment to share in professional, managerial, and teaching responsibilities.
  • Strong communication skills with patients and colleagues.
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance.
• Desirable:
  • Proven management and administration ability.
  • Understanding of management goals.
  • Experience with audit.
  • Evidence of leadership or project management.
  • Evidence of having implemented change.

Teaching

• Essential:
  • Experience of supervising junior staff.
  • Ability to teach clinical skills.

Clinical Governance, Audit, and Research

• Essential:
  • Experience of audit projects.
