Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic doctor to join our dynamic team of resident and trust grade doctors. We hope this will be a good opportunity to work in a busy, tertiary unit, giving the candidate unique experiences in oncology, endometriosis, urogynaecology and fetal medicine.

  • Participate in the registrar on call rota, covering both gynaecology and obstetrics, including delivery suite cover and acute gynaecology and early pregnancy (1 in 8 on call rota including nights and weekends)
  • Day time activities include antenatal clinics, general gynaecology clinics and rapid access
  • Opportunities to cover theatre, outpatient hysteroscopy and specialist clinics such as urogynaecology, fetal medicine and endometriosis
  • Protected time will be allocated weekly for a research project and clinical sessions will be focussed around the candidate's area of interest where possible
  • Support the tier 2/3 rota for the on call portion, and part time during the day to help with service provision and in areas of relevance to the area of research the candidate is invested in
  • Opportunities to engage in departmental audit, teaching and risk management
  • You will be allocated an educational and clinical supervisor and have the opportunity to engage in collecting portfolio evidence and develop skills in your area of interest

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

  • Primary Medical Qualification (Essential)
  • Full GMC registration or eligibility to obtain this within 3 months (or within 6 months for non-EEA applicants) (Essential)
  • MRCOG (Desirable)

Clinical Skills and Knowledge

  • Good history & examination skills (Essential)
  • Carry out basic caesarean section independently (Essential)
  • Can safely undertake speculum examination and antenatal checks (Essential)
  • Able to formulate a working diagnosis (Essential)
  • Able to order appropriate investigations (Essential)
  • Image interpretation relevant to practice (Essential)
  • Knows when to appropriately seek assistance from a senior colleague (Essential)
  • Competent at instrumental delivery (Desirable)
  • Able to safely run labour ward with consultant support (Desirable)

Management and Administration Experience

  • Ability to run a service and participate in management process (Essential)
  • Committed to share in professional, managerial and teaching responsibilities necessary to fulfil the obligations of the Directorate to the Trust and its workforce (Essential)
  • Able to communicate well with patients and colleagues (Essential)
  • An understanding of Clinical Governance (Essential)
  • Proven management and administration ability (Desirable)
