About the role

The Clinical Ethics Director establishes the structure and processes for Ethics Committees and Consultation teams across the Peaks region, provides expert guidance on clinical ethics, leads the implementation of Proactive Integrative Ethics, interprets the Catholic Moral Tradition, offers on-call support for complex cases, coordinates consultation activities, and ensures the integration of the organization's values and Mission.

Responsibilities

  • Build and sustain the infrastructure for Proactive Integrative Ethics across all care sites, ensuring alignment with patient care and experience goals.
  • Collect and analyze key performance indicators to demonstrate the value of ethics initiatives in collaboration with Mission Integration.
  • Assess, educate, and support Ethics Committees and Consultation Teams to operate with consistency, autonomy, and high competency.
  • Ensure uniformity in the structure and delivery of Clinical Ethics services throughout the Region.
  • Provide around-the-clock availability for complex ethical consultations and serve as backup for the Regional VP of Ethics and Church Relations.
  • Collaborate with ICU and high-utilization teams to embed ethics into daily clinical practice through rounding and education.
  • Ensure ethics support for ambulatory care settings.
  • Deliver targeted ethics education to clinical staff, residency programs, and other key groups, including support for Mission Integration Formation programs.
  • Adhere to the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.

Requirements

You must have a minimum of a master's degree in healthcare Ethics, Philosophy, Theology or equivalent discipline, with a doctoral degree preferred. Health Care Ethics Consultant – Certified is preferred. Clinical health care ethics experience is required, along with experience in ethics collaboration in a broad spectrum of healthcare environments. Demonstrated evidence of understanding and ability to represent and apply the moral teachings of the Catholic Church to clinical ethics matters is necessary. Awareness of key bioethical approaches, techniques of ethical analysis, and leading ethics consultations in clinical settings is essential. Fluency in the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services and understanding of the Catholic moral tradition in pluralistic contexts is required. Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and communication of complex topics, are necessary. Ability and discipline to work semi-autonomously, prioritize tasks, meet performance standards, and exercise accountability in a matrix reporting structure are required. Leadership skills, including the ability to work with diverse groups of stakeholders to move to common goals and decisions, form and foster group cohesion, tolerate ambiguity, and navigate power dynamics, are required. Proficiency in using the comprehensive electronic medical record and Microsoft Office tools is required. The ability to drive a vehicle is also required.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master's degree in Healthcare Ethics, Philosophy, Theology or equivalent discipline, doctoral degree preferred.
  • Experience: Clinical health care ethics experience, experience in ethics collaboration in a broad spectrum of healthcare environments, and demonstrated evidence of understanding and ability to represent and apply the moral teachings of the Catholic Church to clinical ethics matters.
  • Knowledge: Awareness of key bioethical approaches, techniques of ethical analysis, and leading ethics consultations in clinical settings, and thorough familiarity with the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services and understanding of the Catholic moral tradition in pluralistic contexts.

Pay

The hourly range for this position is $59.50 - $91.84.
