Clinical Engineer Technician I

About the role

A Clinical Engineering (CE) Technician maintains, services, and repairs medical equipment. This includes preventative measures, cleaning, or adjusting pieces of equipment. CE Technicians are also familiar enough with hospital machinery to disassemble, repair, and reassemble various pieces of technology, though they might specialize in a specific kind of machinery. CE Technicians stay up to date on the most recent technologies emerging in the medical field and help ensure that other hospital staff members use the machinery safely.

Schedule

This position works days from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with on-call and weekend requirements. Start/end times are flexible.

Responsibilities

• Provide routine and as-needed clinical engineering services (repair, maintenance, relocation, installation, etc.) for equipment.
• Maintain documentation of equipment, inventory, service, and repairs.
• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED and two years of experience troubleshooting and maintaining medical equipment or equipment in a mechanical or electrical technician field OR
• Associate’s Degree in Biomechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Information Technology OR
• Equivalent specialized or military training.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE) or Biomedical Engineering Technologist (BMET)
• Associate’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Biomedical Engineering Technology
• IT or networking experience, troubleshooting skills, teamwork, customer service, independence, and a thirst for knowledge

Physical Requirements

• Ability to climb 8-foot ladders and work on overhead equipment.
• Ability to work in prone positions and in confined, darkened areas.
• Sufficient manual dexterity to use hand and power tools and work on small mechanical parts.
• Visual acuity sufficient to distinguish between colors used for wire color coding and read finely printed blueprints and schematics.
• Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
• Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment.
• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
• Ability to travel throughout the hospital system.
• Ability to move up to 50 pounds.

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay

Pay Range Minimum hourly: $22.85
Maximum hourly: $34.85

The pay range displayed reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set, and education. The pay range does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.) or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (e.g., healthcare, dental and vision benefits, retirement savings account contributions, etc.).
