About the role

The Clinical Educator coordinates and conducts education for nursing staff, enhancing quality and safe patient care. Responsibilities include conducting skill-based competency, equipment use expertise, and clinical assessment competency sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches and demonstrates proficiency in patient physical assessment skills, patient care, and nursing skills.
  • Reinforces policies and procedures, protocols, and guidelines with nursing staff.
  • Coordinates nursing-centered rounds and bedside reporting in conjunction with the Nurse Manager/Case Manager.
  • Provides service line-specific unit educational programs in collaboration with preceptors and Nursing Practice Development Specialist (NPDS).
  • Maintains compliance and monitors attendance rosters.
  • Ensures the quality of professional services by demonstrating and maintaining competency through continuous professional growth.
  • Communicates effectively, positively, and professionally, role modeling department expectations.
  • Collaborates with nurse manager, assistant nurse manager, preceptors, and NPDS to design, implement, and evaluate the nursing unit’s orientation and annual needs assessment education plan.
  • Creates and maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, self, co-workers, and facility.
  • Serves as a resource for interpreting and addressing nurse-sensitive indicators and performance improvement.
  • Supports provision of age/developmentally appropriate patient care in accordance with Age/Developmental Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required; BSN required.
  • Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations: Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in applicable state. BCLS required. National certification in specialty preferred, encouraged to obtain within one year of hire.
  • Experience: Three years’ clinical experience in area of interest required.

  • Ability to synthesize and prioritize knowledge.
  • Ability to tailor teaching to different learning styles.
  • Understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design.

Skills

  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
  • Physical Demands: Must speak and understand English fluently. Intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, and touch. Finger dexterity. Critical thinking and ability to concentrate.
