About the role

The Clinical Director of the Cancer Program will lead the growth and development of cancer care at UTMB Health. Reporting to Antonio Bianco, MD, PhD, the Clinical Director will collaborate with executive and clinical leaders to enhance cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, research, and education across UTMB's hospitals and ambulatory network.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a successful cancer program through strategic recruitment and partnerships with Chairs and other health system leaders.
  • Develop and implement integrated and coordinated care pathways to deliver high-quality care and patient outcomes.
  • Assess the current state of cancer care and create a short-term and long-term strategy for growth and development.
  • Lead and build a respected and collaborative team within the oncology program.
  • Ensure alignment with UTMB’s strategic priorities and commitment to its vision.

Requirements

  • Physician leader (MD or DO) with board certification in an oncologic field.
  • Record of successful leadership in a complex academic health system.
  • Experience in developing and implementing integrated care pathways.
  • Ability to assess the current state and create a strategic plan for growth.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Board certification in an oncologic field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in oncology or related field.
  • Experience leading and building a successful oncology program.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement integrated care pathways.

Skills

  • Strategic planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of oncology clinical infrastructure and patient-centered care.
