Clinical Director

About the Role

The Clinical Director oversees TRS Therapy Services (Nest program), including hiring, supervision, program development, evaluation, and scheduling of clinicians in coordination with Tewa Roots Society Leadership. This role collaborates with leadership to develop and implement strategies for collaboration, sustainability, and quality wraparound therapy services. The Clinical Director provides onboarding training, clinical and administrative supervision, and ensures alignment with organizational values while maintaining accountability for program success, staff, and services.

Responsibilities

• Hire, supervise, evaluate, schedule, and take corrective action for clinical department personnel.
• Ensure staff adhere to ethical standards (Professional and State Codes of Ethics).
• Collaborate with the Executive Director and Deputy Director to oversee and execute deliverables for federal grants and IHS-related contracts.
• Develop a system for prompt and reliable intake processes to ensure timely client care.
• Oversee the inpatient rehabilitation referral process.
• Assess clinical operations to meet sustainability goals for contracted therapists and employed staff.
• Supervise all aspects of the Clinical Department in alignment with organizational values.
• Oversee and evaluate administrative and billing processes from intake through client discharge (e.g., intake paperwork, treatment planning, note audits, superbill creation).
• Collaborate with internal TRS program supervisors to streamline referral processes and wraparound services communication.
• Orchestrate program growth and connections for sustainability and longevity.
• Sign off on EMR Bear notes to ensure timely insurance payment and appropriate clinical documentation.
• Support and encourage therapists to integrate nature-based elements (e.g., plants, water, horses) into counseling sessions.
• Coordinate trainings in adventure therapy, experiential learning, group/grief therapy, equine therapy, and mobile therapy.
• Coordinate with the Clinical Systems Analyst and Executive Director on contract negotiations, credentialing, and reporting.
• Review and recommend changes to program offerings to address service gaps, with emphasis on Medicaid, Nambe Pueblo, and Native clients in the Tewa region.
• Oversee program evaluation and quality assurance, including legal and professional requirements and treatment plan monitoring.
• Ensure successful communication and coordination between Tewa Roots Society programs and Nambe Pueblo Governmental systems.
• Provide regular clinical training to staff and interns.
• Develop and oversee contracts for independently licensed clinical staff.
• Participate in recruitment efforts for clinical interns, conduct outreach, and maintain relationships with graduate schools.
• Provide or delegate clinical supervision for non-independently licensed providers and interns, maintaining documentation as required.
• Conduct regular clinical case staffing sessions with behavioral health providers and case managers.
• Participate in professional development training.
• Ensure case documentation complies with best practices.
• Assist staff and interns with urgent clinical situations and provide supervisory crisis coverage.
• Provide individual, family, and group therapy as needed.
• Represent Tewa Roots Society at community partner meetings and report back to the Leadership Team.
• Attend Tribal Council meetings as needed and collaborate with Tribal Programs, Tribal Courts, and community partners.
• Review and recommend changes to program services to meet client needs, particularly for underserved populations.
• Perform other duties as needed by the organization.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Social Work or Professional Counseling.
• Independently licensed in New Mexico (LPCC, LCSW, LMFT) with a supervisor designation.
• Five or more years of supervisory experience in mental health, substance use disorder, or dual diagnosis programs, with skills in training, coaching, and mentoring multidisciplinary staff.
• Preferred: Ten years of experience in mental health treatment, substance abuse treatment, or related social services.
• Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule based on client and program needs.
• Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, verbal, presentation, and written), including documentation standards.
• Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR).
• Preferred experience working with Native American populations.
• Preference given to Native American applicants and LCSW license holders.
