Clinical Coordinator (RN) - Full Time
Summary/Objective
The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for originating, developing, and managing employee staffing functions for the Medical-Surgical Unit and supports staffing needs for the Medical-Surgical Unit within the scope of their license, as needed.
Essential Functions
- Generates monthly staffing schedules for Medical-Surgical unit and posts in a timely.
- Inputs schedules into the online based schedule platform.
- Manages all vacancies, call-outs, and medical or other types of leaves of absences on a daily basis.

- Aids in setting up and conducting interviews and hiring nursing staff.
- Aids the Director of Nursing or other leaders in providing adequate nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, & CNAs.
- Aids the Director of Nursing and assigned preceptor for orientation of new hires.
- Ensures the unit has appropriate resources and assists in departmental education opportunities.
- Communicates fluently within the department and pushes down messages to the front-line staff from the Director of Nursing.
- Handles complaints and grievances timely and completes all required documentation.
- Completes payroll bi-weekly with the assistance of other managers and Director of Nursing.
- Accountability for time and attendance and tracking of those employees that are calling out. Following through with disciplinary action for any outstanding time and attendance variances.
- Back up to the Director of Nursing during any absences or vacation.
- Communicates with the Nursing Agencies to help get shifts covered and verifies invoices. Submits the check request for those companies.
- Helps follow up with staff on getting tasks completed and ensures everyone has the communication information needed.
- Performs chart audits for Med/Surg, participates in performance improvement initiatives, annual competencies, and other special projects as assigned by the Director of Nursing and/or other nursing leaders.
- Data collection and presentation for the QMS meeting monthly.
- Promotes compliance with accident prevention procedures, safety rules, and safe work practices to prevent employee injury and illness and control workers’ compensation.
- Assists in departmental education opportunities and seeks out opportunities for the Med/Surg.
- Within 1 year of hire, becomes an instructor for BLS, ACLS and possibly PALS.
- Function as the chair for the Daisy Award program at the facility.
- Assists with DNV and regulatory submissions.
- Submits a daily synopsis of unit status (census, staffing, IT or maintenance issues) to the Director of Nursing prior to the daily safety huddle each day.
- Absent the Director of Nursing, assist with reporting on the daily huddle.
- Completes rounding on patients at minimum twice weekly.
- Ensures daily logs are kept up to date.
- Aids in complaints and employee relations.
- Follows up with staff and ensures they get their annual fit testing with employees.
- Absent the Director of Nursing, assist with annual assessments.
- Absent the Director of Nursing, assist with determining equipment/needs for the unit for budgeting annually.
- Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
- Prepares, administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV), and records prescribed medications.
- Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed practical nurse.
- Records patients’ medical information and vital signs.
- Maintains specialized equipment used on the unit.
- Interprets and records electronic displays.
- Initiates corrective action whenever the patient displays adverse reactions.
- Provides bedside care for a wide variety of medical patients, including pre- and post-surgery patients.
- Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by the physician.
- Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their illness/injury by explaining post-treatment home care needs.
- Changes dressings, inserts catheters, and starts intravenous lines.
- Prepares equipment and aids physician during examination and treatment of patients.
- Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocols.
- Utilizes time management skills to record all care information concisely, accurately, completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format, and on the appropriate forms.
- Answers and refers telephone calls or other inquiries to ensure accurate and timely communications.
- Cooperates with distribution of resources to maintain a therapeutic environment.

Work Environment
This position operates in a health care setting. This role requires regular walking to various locations around the hospital. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and some mechanical equipment. The employee is exposed to a variety of patient conditions and elements. The noise level is moderate to quiet.

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday; hours are flexible based on the job duties demand. Evening and weekend work may be required based on the needs of the position/job duties. After hours calls/text messages from staff are also to be expected with this role. This position requires administrative “on call” responsibilities. When assigned as a staff nurse (due to a vacancy), this position may require shift work; shifts may vary, but working hours may be up to approximately 12 hours.
