About the Role

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Von Voigtlander Women’s Clinic provides consultation, comprehensive treatment, and a broad range of services for patients with normal and high-risk pregnancies, as well as a full spectrum of gynecologic services. The clinic team includes physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, medical assistants, social workers, dieticians, and a multifunctional administrative/clerical team.

This role involves providing culturally sensitive, age-specific nursing care within a team-based model to patients in the OB/GYN clinic, including adult medicine, pediatric, and OB/GYN populations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide culturally sensitive, age-specific nursing care within a team-based model for OB/GYN and primary care patients.
  • Perform phone triage, referral triage, assessment, screening, clinical advice, nurse visits (in-person, virtual, or phone), in-clinic procedures, and other assigned duties.
  • Accurately document nursing care and patient progress in electronic health records.
  • Use clinical knowledge, reasoning, and critical thinking to assess and evaluate the needs of OB/GYN and Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) patients.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and ancillary services to deliver high-quality, effective patient care.
  • Coordinate outpatient clinical support through InBasket messages and telephone triage to ensure seamless care delivery.
  • Participate in care coordination, including medication management, placing orders per protocol, relaying test results, completing OB intakes and post-op calls, providing patient/family education, and managing clinic emergencies.
  • Document patient care and progress in detailed records.
  • Provide direct patient care in the ambulatory setting, including assessment, education, counseling, and support based on the nursing process.
  • Coordinate and manage care for gynecological, obstetrical, and maternal-fetal medicine patients in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Develop and provide education for patients, nursing staff, students, fellows, residents, and the community.
  • Perform preliminary patient assessments through observation and chart review to facilitate appropriate follow-up.
  • Maintain complete and accurate patient charts, including preparation prior to visits.
  • Evaluate unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitate appropriate interventions and referrals.
  • Implement clinical decisions and accept accountability for care provided by self and delegated healthcare providers.
  • Collaborate with and serve as a resource to the clinical team, including social workers, OB/GYN nurses, clerical staff, and physicians.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of patient and family teaching.
  • Respond to patient treatment-related phone calls and InBasket messages.
  • Assist physicians with clinical activities and medical procedures as needed.
  • Support clinical and translational research.
  • Attend and participate in conferences and continuing education/staff development programs to maintain current knowledge.
  • Provide functional supervision to assistive personnel and collaborate with colleagues, other disciplines, and community services to promote continuity of care.
  • Perform other nursing duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or Associate degree/diploma in Nursing and a Master’s degree or higher in Nursing.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent (within the last seven years) experience in Labor and Delivery.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience within an ambulatory care clinic.
  • BLS certification.
  • Resume required for consideration.

Desired Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of ambulatory care experience within OB/GYN.
  • One (1) year of Maternal Fetal Medicine ambulatory care experience.
  • More than five (5) years of OB/GYN experience.
  • One (1) year of additional specialty GYN ambulatory care experience in Vulvar, Peds GYN, Transgender Patients, Minimally Invasive Surgery, or Chronic Pelvic Pain.
  • Experience using clinical protocols to make decisions for adult patients and facilitating staff education on new or modified protocols.
  • Experience with MiChart, EPIC, Cisco Finesse, Word, and Excel.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of recent (within the last seven years) experience in OB/GYN or labor and delivery patient triage.
  • Certification in Ambulatory Nursing or Obstetric Nursing.

  • Willingness to adapt to different patient populations, including pediatrics, OB/GYN, and adult medicine.
  • Demonstrated accountability for completing work, mandatories, and goal-setting within established timelines.

Pay

Hourly range for RSAM Competent, Registered Nurses: $43.10–$67.03 per hour.

  • Evening Shift Differential: $3.00/hour
  • Night Shift Differential: $4.00/hour
  • Day Shift Weekend Differential: $2.90/hour
  • Evening Shift Weekend Differential: $5.90/hour
  • Night Shift Weekend Differential: $6.90/hour
  • Charge Nurse Differential: $1.00/hour

Actual RSAM level and salary will be determined at the time of hire. RSAM levels range from CCC-COMPETENT to CCC-EXPERT, CCC-MASTERY, and CCC-MASTERY PLUS.

Schedule

  • Hours/Week: 40 hours (1.0 FTE).
  • Shift: Day shift (8-hour shift); Monday–Friday. Hours and days may vary (including weekends/holidays) based on patient and volume needs.
  • Location: Von Voigtlander OB/GYN Clinic and other work locations as needed to support patient populations.

All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.
