Full-time (0.9 FTE) position in the Retail-Express department at UnityPoint Clinic, located in West Des Moines, IA. This role supports both Express Care and Urgent Care clinics.
About the role
The Clinical Care Attendant plays a vital role in keeping Express Care and Urgent Care running smoothly by supporting providers and delivering efficient, compassionate patient care. This role assists with patient intake, vital signs, point-of-care testing, procedures, and patient flow while helping create a positive experience from arrival to checkout. Team members may be required to work at or float to other locations to support optimized staffing.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 3 × 12-hour shifts (8:00 AM–8:00 PM) plus every 3rd weekend.
Responsibilities
- Greet, register, and room patients; collect vital signs and patient history.
- Assist providers with clinical procedures and perform point-of-care testing as directed.
- Provide patient education and comfort, review after-visit instructions, and conduct follow-up calls.
- Maintain exam rooms, medical supplies, and clinic logs per protocol.
- Communicate with patients, providers, pharmacies, and staff effectively.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, and safety standards.
- Participate in clinic meetings, trainings, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support clinic operations.
Qualifications
- Current Iowa certification as EMT, Paramedic, LPN, or CMA.
- If EMT/Paramedic: Current and Active Permit to Practice/License in state of practice.
- If LPN: Current and Active/Unencumbered LPN License in State of Practice or compact license including state of practice.
- If Certified Medical Assistant: Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assistants (Certificate, diploma, or associate’s degree) required. Certified or Registered Medical Assistant through one of the following required:
- National Healthcare Association
- American Association of Medical Assistants
- National Center for Competency Testing
- National Certified Medical Assistant
- National Association of Health Professionals
- American Registry of Medical Assistants
- American Allied Health
- American Medical Technologists
- Clinical experience preferred.
- Epic experience a plus.
