Job Summary
The Clinical Behavioral Health Assessor PRN functions as a member of the treatment team in both the Psychiatric Emergency Center and Medical Emergency Room environment and is responsible for providing mental health services. This job also provides direct care and other support services in a way that promotes positive treatment outcomes and meets the needs of our behavioral health patients.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities
- Provides 24/7 coverage in the Psychiatric Emergency Center as well as in the Medical Emergency Room environment.
- Covers day shift and night shift on both weekdays and weekends.
- Diagnostics and provides recommendations in levels of care for the treatment of mental disorders and/or substance abuse disorder.
- Provides quick and accurate clinical assessments of mental health and substance abuse conditions.
- Covers intake assessments, triage, referrals, case management and crisis intervention.
- In the Medical Emergency Room, completes brief assessments of patients and assists with referrals/appointments for behavioral health outpatient aftercare.
- Documents treatment goals and plans in the electronic medical record of which includes all assessments and all relevant clinical documentation.
- Assists the treatment team in recognizing, treating and managing mental health and psychosocial issues.
- Utilizes behavioral health expertise to promote change and improve behavioral and physical health conditions.
- Provides care-management skills and knowledge of local resources for outside referrals.
- Advises the care team about which clients are better served at in a different setting as well as and which should be referred to other mental health facilities or specialties.
- Develops relapse prevention plans and helps clients maintain stable functioning, when necessary.
- Makes sure the delivery of health services for clients related to behavioral health, including linking with other treatment providers within and outside the primary care setting.
- Aids in the process for any recommendations that require authorizations prior to arranging treatment.
- Provides clients with self-management skills and educational information, so that, they can be a full participant in their own treatment and recovery.
- Coordinates incoming and outgoing transfers and demonstrates knowledge of EMTALA laws when processing patient transfers.
- May assist with coordinating filings for court-ordered mental health services.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Counseling or Social Work.
- 2 plus years of work experience conducting diagnosis of severe mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders in a healthcare, therapeutic, physician, and/or other clinical practice setting.
- Must have a current licensure in one of the following: Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) from the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners or the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors.
- Certification in Non-Aggressive Crisis Management; must be obtained while in orientation and maintained throughout employment.
