Clinical Authorization Specialist - Cardiovascular Medical Clinic - Full Time 8 Hour Days

Essential Duties

• Generate a patient MRN and is adept at utilizing the MRN checker.
• Demonstrates ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
• Determine if the patients insurance is contracted with USC.
• Edit insurance information as appropriate.
• Resolve all GE Centricity Alerts.
• Absorb patient demographics and confirm they are current and correct in both hospital and physician systems.
• Utilize appropriate codes and patient types in the Physician System.
• Verify and comprehend insurance benefits via contacting insurance companies directly, electronic verification system, or direct insurance websites.
• Absorb authorizations are in place as specified by patients carrier.
• Customer service skills: phone etiquette, scripting, escorting patients, professional conduct.
• Able to request patient financial liabilities (Co-pay outstanding balances).
• Follow and adhere to dress code and attendance policies provided by Human Resources.
• Assist Supervisor as needed with special projects and other duties as assigned.
• Balances cash drawer to Batch.
• Closes out batches.
• Prepares bank deposit for Physician practice.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of hospital experience or in a related field.
• Excellent time management, organizational skills, research/analytical skills, negotiation, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.
• Able to function independently and as a member of a team.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service behavior.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of the health insurance industry and claims processing.
