Essential Duties
- Generate a patient MRN and is adept at utilizing the MRN checker.
- Demonstrates ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Determine if the patients insurance is contracted with USC.
- Edit insurance information as appropriate.
- Resolve all GE Centricity Alerts.
- Absorb patient demographics and confirm they are current and correct in both hospital and physician systems.
- Utilize appropriate codes and patient types in the Physician System.
- Verify and comprehend insurance benefits via contacting insurance companies directly, electronic verification system, or direct insurance websites.
- Absorb authorizations are in place as specified by patients carrier.
- Customer service skills: phone etiquette, scripting, escorting patients, professional conduct.
- Able to request patient financial liabilities (Co-pay outstanding balances).
- Follow and adhere to dress code and attendance policies provided by Human Resources.
- Assist Supervisor as needed with special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Balances cash drawer to Batch.
- Closes out batches.
- Prepares bank deposit for Physician practice.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of hospital experience or in a related field.
- Excellent time management, organizational skills, research/analytical skills, negotiation, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.
- Able to function independently and as a member of a team.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service behavior.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Knowledge of the health insurance industry and claims processing.
