Clinical Assistant Professor: Full Time Faculty, Pre-Licensure Nursing

About the Role

To provide ongoing curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation of classroom and laboratory instruction, participation in student advising, and registration. Full and active participation in Nursing and University committees to assist in the continued evolution of the Nursing Program is an integral part of the position. Experience with test writing and item analysis is required. Expertise in women's and children's health is required; candidates with other specialty experience will also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate the highest level of professional integrity and commitment to professional nursing.
  • Maintain an active presence on campus, including availability for counseling and advising students.
  • Participate in activities that promote interaction between students and the academic environment.
  • Develop courses and exams, including item analysis.
  • Meet assigned course load and contact hours each semester/year.
  • Be on campus at least three full days per week.
  • Attend faculty meetings, university and departmental functions, and informational sessions (mandatory).
  • Maintain punctuality and attendance to meet all assigned teaching commitments.
  • Make up any missed classes or clinical sessions.
  • Hold posted office hours (minimum three hours per week) and be available for appointments outside these hours if necessary.
  • Inform students of mid-term and end-term progress in advisement meetings.
  • As a Course Chair for courses with clinical and laboratory components:
    • Manage the course, including curriculum planning and syllabus development.
    • Distribute the syllabus to all clinical instructors.
    • Develop tests and schedule class and clinical sessions.
    • Correspond with clinical instructors and clinical facilities.
  • Participate in clinical instruction laboratory.
  • Contribute to committees, including preparation, writing, and editing of accreditation reports and self-study reports for accrediting bodies and the state.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution (Doctorate in progress).
  • Self-directed and organized.
  • Hearing and visual acuity, as well as manual dexterity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, and electronic medical records.
  • Knowledge of current clinical practice and evidence-based nursing.
  • Understanding of basic principles of education.
  • Strong communication skills with students and faculty.
  • Ability to plan and organize lab sessions for students in various nursing courses.
  • Experience using technology in education.
  • Variable schedule.
  • Positive, cooperative, and supportive attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or EdD in Nursing or a related field with extensive scholarly contributions (required for tenure track consideration).
  • Unencumbered NY State Professional RN license.
  • Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer or Health Provider.
  • Immunizations as required by clinical affiliates.
  • Prior university teaching experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to hear, talk, and communicate effectively.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to perceive and detect surroundings.
  • Mental acuity to focus, concentrate, understand, and convey subject matter.
  • Capable of repetitive motion (e.g., keyboarding).
  • Able to stand, sit, walk, and move between areas.
  • Ability to bend and lift.

Pay

The annual salary for this position is $80,000 - $87,000.

Schedule

This is a 12-month, 30-credit position.
