About the role

The Specialty Full-Time Faculty will advise the Director of Clinical Faculty on college-wide academic issues, assist in moving the institution towards academic excellence, and manage continuity of patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an open-door policy for students in need of assistance or counseling
  • Manage continuity of patient care at each clinical session
  • Assist all students in assigned area with quality patient care
  • Measure and record patient temperature, blood pressure and pulse, and assist students during patient exams
  • Assist students with administration of anesthesia and in placement and removal of sutures
  • Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and operate resuscitative equipment
  • Dispose appropriately of contaminated waste
  • Load and unload radiographic film cassettes, protect self, student and patient from excessive ionizing radiation exposure; expose bitewing, periapical, occlusal radiographs and panoramic radiographs
  • Supervise activities of dental students
  • Provide technical guidance to students
  • Ensure comfort, safety, and cleanliness of dental facilities
  • Instruct students in work techniques and procedures
  • Evaluate student and staff performance; counsel personnel and prepare evaluation reports on students
  • Prepare administrative, technical, patient and manpower reports
  • Absure that all case completions have an exit exam
  • Coordinate the teaching and evaluation of professionalism and clinical practice management skills of the students
  • Meet regularly with the Assistant/Associate Dean for Clinical Education

Qualifications

  • Earned a DDS/DMD degree and a specialty degree in their field of dentistry from a CODA accredited institution
  • Board certification in their specialty is desired
  • Show evidence of scholarly activity in their field of dentistry
  • Have a minimum of five years of experience in private practice or at an academic health center in their specialty
  • Have an Arizona License and DEA License
  • Be an experienced administrator whose background includes leadership in the oversight of clinical dentistry associated with their field
  • Be a person committed to educating and empowering students with a wide range of clinical and academic abilities

Physical Demands

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Regularly walk between operatories in applicable
  • Sit or stand chairside to evaluate procedures that are being performed by students
  • Sit or stand chairside and demonstrate procedures on a patent or mannequin
  • Sit or stand chairside performing/taking these procedures to completion as needed
  • Use a computer for extended periods of time
