Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences (Practitioner) Transplant Psychologist

About the role

The Department of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC is seeking a California licensed psychologist with expertise in transplant and treating addiction disorders.

Responsibilities

• Reports to clinic/division leadership.
• Conducts initial diagnostic evaluations and biopsychosocial assessments, develops treatment plans, and provides evidence-based practice related to alcohol related liver disease.
• Provides evidence-based individual and group therapy to patients presenting with alcohol related substance abuse disorders.
• Participates in and contributes as a member of the practice.
• Evaluates crisis situations and intervenes appropriately.
• Provides after-hours on-call service, as assigned.
• Conducts comprehensive substance abuse evacuations to identify how the substance use relates to transplant candidacy. This includes careful review of medical records to identify health status, risk factors, and potential barriers to treatment.
• Provides ongoing education and counseling to patients and families throughout all phases of the process and help to facilitate navigation through family dynamics and/or substance abuse issues as they arise.
• Provides presentations of objective assessment to the interdisciplinary committee who reviews liver transplant candidacy.
• Provides education and information to patients and families to ensure informed patient choice and ability to participate actively in the process.
• Initiates and maintains strong communication and collaboration with physicians, surgeons, transplant coordinators, social workers, RN’s and other disciplines inside and outside of Keck Medicine to develop and implement a plan of care.
• Completes timely documentation and billing in accordance with to clinic policies.
• Maintains appropriate clinical records and complies with all relevant regulatory policies and procedures.
• Participates in clinical outcome evaluation.
• Collaborates and consults with other mental health and primary care providers involved in the care of the patient.
• Participates in multidisciplinary case conferences and meetings.
• Attends and contributes to department and division meetings, fostering clinical objectives and a consultative collegial environment.
• Participates in all required peer review, performance evaluation, and merit review processes, as well as quality improvement activities.

Requirements

• Doctorate in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program.
• Licensed in California.
• Well-developed clinical skills and experience utilizing evidenced-based interventions for the treatment of addiction disorders, primarily alcohol related disease.
• Effectively works in a highly diverse, multicultural, and LGBTQIA+ affirmative environment.
• Interest and skill in an integrated approach to care.
• Willingness and ability to see a high volume of patients and meet departmental productivity standards.
• Ability to make quick and accurate clinical assessments.
• Flexible/comfortable adapting to a new and evolving clinical practice.
• Bilingual or multilingual – Proficiency in Spanish is required.

Qualifications

Pay

• The annual base salary range for this position is $100,000-$180,000.
