The Section of Clinical Cardiology is often the area where patients first access specialized inpatient and outpatient heart care and long-term management of their conditions. We offer the latest innovations in cardiac care and clinical therapies to patients of all ages, providing state-of-the-art tests and procedures to help make accurate diagnoses and create treatment plans. We see patients with common heart problems such as angina, artery problems, valvular heart disease, and heart failure, as well as rare forms of heart disease, including conditions previously deemed untreatable by other doctors.

About the role

As a Clinical Assistant at Indian River Hospital’s Cardiology Practice, you will assist LPNs, RNs, and other healthcare staff in providing exceptional patient support. This position serves as a great introduction to the Cleveland Clinic enterprise, offering numerous educational and professional development opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care to patients as appropriate.
  • Administer medications accurately and document nursing activities, including medical records, authorization forms, and laboratory requisitions.
  • Implement pain management assessments and documentation.
  • Recognize changes in patient status and report pertinent information to the Charge Nurse or Physicians.
  • Follow through with nursing interventions as needed.
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date documentation and files at all times.
  • Perform patient teaching under the supervision of an RN or Physician.
  • Adhere to the National Patient Safety Goals as outlined by JCAHO.
  • Follow Code Blue protocol as per clinic policy.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Program.
  • Current Florida licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
  • Knowledge of Infection Control Practices.
  • Computer literacy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of clinical experience.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or ALS through the American Red Cross.
  • IV certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good hand-eye coordination, and extensive standing and walking.
  • Occasional lifting may be required.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions or irregular hours.
  • Some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements exceed those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Schedule

This position works days from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM or 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
