About the Role

The University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN) invites applications for a full-time, 12-month clinical track faculty position beginning in the 2027-2028 academic year. This on-site role seeks accomplished board-certified Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners, clinical educators, and clinical scholars who demonstrate excellence in advanced practice nursing, teaching, mentorship, scholarship, and service. Candidates should contribute to the preparation of future advanced practice nurses and the advancement of evidence-based healthcare, with a commitment to innovative teaching, interprofessional collaboration, and clinical excellence.

Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in emergency or trauma care, surgical units, neurology, oncology, women's health, or family health. Interest in global health practice is desirable. Courses are delivered in person, and the position requires active engagement in clinical practice.

Responsibilities

• Teach in undergraduate and/or graduate nursing programs.
• Mentor students and integrate teaching, practice, scholarship, and service.
• Collaborate with faculty and clinical partners to develop and sustain high-quality educational programs.
• Participate in the development and implementation of innovative curricular activities.
• Engage in clinically relevant scholarship, including peer-reviewed publications, evidence-based practice initiatives, quality improvement projects, program evaluation, guideline development, dissemination activities, and grant-related work.
• Contribute to service within the profession and academic community.
• Promote the School of Nursing’s Declaration of Values, including respect, integrity, and communication that is beneficial, kind, and true.

Requirements

• Doctorate in Nursing.
• Nursing license in the State of Michigan (current or willingness to obtain).
• Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Board Certification (AGACNP-BC or ACNPC-AG) from the American Nurses Credentialing Center or the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.
• Current clinical experience in a relevant practice role.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative curricular activities.
• Evidence of increasing service to the profession and academic community.
• Clinically relevant scholarship that advances advanced practice nursing and healthcare outcomes.
• Compliance with all health requirements, including Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, orientations, licenses/certifications, and policies for assigned classrooms and clinical sites.
• Excellent communication, networking, and relationship-building skills.

Additional Qualifications for Clinical Associate Professor Rank

• Demonstrated excellence and sustained impact in clinical and/or didactic teaching.
• Leadership in advanced practice education, curriculum development, clinical program innovation, or professional organizations.
• Sustained record of clinically relevant scholarship with regional or national recognition.
• Significant service contributions to the profession, academic community, healthcare organizations, or clinical practice initiatives.

Schedule

This is a full-time, 12-month position beginning in the 2027-2028 academic year. The search will be conducted during the 2026-2027 academic year, with application reviews beginning in September 2026.
