About the Role

The Medical Assistant III (MA III) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) performs both administrative and clinical duties under the direct supervision of a provider or supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Answer phones, schedule appointments, and perform data entry in medical records
• Measure and record vital signs
• Collect patient demographics and medical information, including review of medication lists
• Prepare patients for examination
• Clean rooms and equipment, and stock supplies
• Administer medications as ordered by the physician
• Perform specific competencies as directed by the department (LPN)

Requirements

Education

• MA III: High School Diploma or Equivalent. Effective 9/1/20: Completion of a formal MA training program that included pharmacology, anatomy/physiology, basics of medication administration, and a clinical externship.
• LPN: Graduate of a state board-accredited practical nursing program.

Experience

• MA III: No prior experience required. Preferred: Previous experience in a role involving direct contact with people, particularly in a healthcare or ambulatory clinic setting.
• LPN: Preferred: Previous nursing experience, particularly in an outpatient or ambulatory clinic setting.

Skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team
• Proficient computer skills
• Ability to carry out delegated tasks under supervision (MA III) or with provider oversight (LPN)

Licensure/Certification/Registration

• MA III: Certification or Registration from a CoxHealth-approved program: CMA/AAMA, RMA/AMT, CCMA/NHA, NRCMA/NAHP, NCMA/NCCT, or RMA/AAMP.
• LPN: Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Graduate Practical Nurse (GPN) license active in the state of Missouri. Preferred: IV certification in the state of Missouri.
