Job Summary
The position involves providing direct patient care in a clinical setting under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Essential functions include interacting professionally with patients and families, addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs, communicating effectively, and maintaining accurate documentation.
Essential Functions
- Interacts professionally with patients/families; treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
- Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
- Effectively and appropriately communicates with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers, demonstrating customer service excellence.
- Provides direct patient care, consults with nursing staff/providers as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
- Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques and educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
- Maintains accurate and continued documentation appropriately for all assessments, treatments, and evaluations performed.
- Applies principles of sterile techniques and infection control procedures.
- Maintains current knowledge of medications and IV fluids and their correct administration based on age of the patient and his/her clinical condition.
- Aids in establishing a plan of care appropriate to problems identified and involving the patient according to his or her capabilities and desires.
- Documents goals, anticipated progress and plans for reevaluation.
- Affords assistance to other nursing staff with the delivery of nursing care.
- Collaborates with other providers in patient care and performance improvement activities.
- Coordinates patient services with referring physician/facility.
Requirements
- Successful completion of orientation checklist and skills/credentials/competency requirements of specific area of work.
- Able to maintain a high awareness of patient satisfaction and teamwork.
- Attention to detail and ability to respond to and cope with emergency situations professionally and calmly.
- Adaptable to performing well under pressure in a stressful environment and taking appropriate action.
- Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
