About the role
As the Clinic Lead at MidWest Eye Center, you will oversee all day-to-day activities in a specified practice location, including staffing, clinic flow, patient relations, inventory, and equipment maintenance. You will provide leadership, solve problems, and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards from iJCAHPO and other regulatory agencies.
Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Aid with patient flow, diagnostic testing, and technician exam components as needed.
- Support timely completion of clinical administrative duties, including prescription refills, patient messages/tasks, and documentation audits.
- Maintain communication with the clinical training team regarding technicians in training.
- Comply with all practice procedures, protocols, and state/federal regulations.
- Determine if documentation supports E/M vs. Eye Code, match applicable ICD-10 codes, and appropriately code in-office procedures.
- Educate patients regarding conditions treated and surgical procedures performed by the doctor.
- Perform advanced clinical skills, including:
- History Taking
- Visual Acuity
- Confrontation Visual Fields
- Extraocular Motility Assessment (evaluation of ductions, cover/uncover & alternating cover testing, and documentation of defects)
- Pupil Assessment (identify abnormalities, including APD, and use special techniques for evaluation)
- Intraocular Pressure Measurement (Goldmann applanation via slit lamp or Perkins tonometer)
- Manual Lensometry (accurate transposition between minus and plus cylinder)
- Angle Assessment (utilizing the slit lamp microscope)
- Manual Refractometry (refinement using Jackson Cross-Cylinder technique, duochrome testing, and prism measurements)
- Diagnostic testing (immersion/contact A-scan biometry, ultrasound, OCT, visual field, pachymetry, topography, dry eye testing, and fundus photography)
- Supplemental testing (Amsler Grid, Color Vision, Stereopsis (Randot test), Exophthalmometry, BAT, and PAM)
- Minor Procedure Assisting (excision, suturing, sterilization techniques)
- Scribing (accurate documentation and coding for exams, consults, and surgical procedures)
- Pharmacology (identify, prescribe, and administer oral/intraocular medications, including understanding purpose, action, and side effects)
Administrative Duties
- Maintain inventory PAR levels and order medical/office supplies via D365.
- Complete monthly inventory counts and report procurement concerns.
- Lead daily team huddles and monthly team meetings.
- Create daily/weekly staff schedules, including coordination for last-minute changes.
- Collaborate with doctors to develop and update their schedule templates and communicate changes to clinical/contact center teams.
- Respond to patient relations inquiries and submit complaint resolutions.
- Develop and train staff on clinical standard operating procedures and new policies.
- Report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer.
- Contribute to team efforts by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
- Maintain a positive attitude, cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism.
- Serve as a coach and mentor to team members, fostering continuous learning and professional growth.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum five (2) years of ophthalmology experience; leadership experience preferred.
- Current iJCAHPO COA certification required.
- Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
